These two little beauties are currently nibbling away at some fennel in our garden. The Swallowtail caterpillar must surely one of nature’s most beautiful pests.

I may be about to make a fool of myself, here goes, how does the swallowtail caterpillar get its name. It doesn't appear to have the trademark "forked" tail unlike the swallow itself? Steve Help please!?

Kelly, look back a couple of posts in this section & you'll see Steve's photo of a Swallowtail butterfly complete with forked tail. pete.
