I have just read the following which may be of interest. Whilst it may not be a problem when hiring from a firm in Roda it could be a problem if anyone is hiring from a company based at the airport (and that are fully computerised). After the 8th of June, you will need to get a special code from the DVLA if you wish to hire a car abroad. Following the demise of the paper counterpart licence this code will give the car hire companies details of any driving convictions you might have. However, this code is only valid for 72 hours so if you are not hiring a car from the start of your holiday you will have to go online whilst abroad to get a valid code. Travellers are being advised to hang on to their paper counterpart licences in case overseas car hire companies aren't aware of this change. Seems an odd system to me, but hey, what do I know?! I don't know how to do those fancy schmancy link thingy thangies - but see below. www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-32481382?ocid=socialflow_twitter

Further to Kath's warning and advice, it may well be useful to make a note of the link below.
I believe that if caught out; you could then go on-line to access all of your latest up-to-date Driving Licence Information - which includes vehicles you're allowed to drive, penalty points awarded and disqualification status; and you could then show it directly to the hire-car company you're using.
(This may even get round the 72 hours validity problem ??) Rgds, Chris

We were discussing this last night after himself saw it on the Beeb text. Me being cynical again - it seems to be just another ploy to stop 'yer ordinary folk' enjoying their holidays - in other words, make the beggars stay at home and spend their hard earned cash in their own country instead of trying to ape their betters and dare to go ABROAD!!! Whether Corfu will comply - who knows, but in all honesty would car hire firms refuse badly needed business because of this? I doubt it. Ignorance is bliss sometimes!!

I don't think that the View Driving Licence will work as that just gives you details of your licence and you have to give a code, which is not on that link, as I played with it yesterday. Think they yet again have us by the S & C's and we have to comply. To be honest, it is not a major problem as there are now many places in Corfu with internet access.
