I love the little stadium at Nymphes a great place to sit in the sun and watch football. And it if you tire of the game the scenery is amazing.

Well I would like to agree Jan but yesterday the ground was in shade from the sun and the chill wind was rolling down through the olive groves so I had to put on scarf and gloves and tap feet about to keep warm!!!!!!
Brief update as I dont have time to write report this morning...…….Jonathan Banos was sent off in last game (2 yellow cards) so had to miss the match.
Sfakera won 3-2 to go above Dragotina to 11th.

On a sunny Saturday at 3:30 Sfakera had to rejuggle their defence with Jonathan suspended and another experienced defender absent; they started with experienced midfielder and a left back moving into the middle. It was to show a problem during the games as there was little understanding nor was the back four working as a line across the pitch. There was a stiff breeze blowing across the pitch into the stand where 30 hardy souls were sat in expectation.
Early play was with Sfakera keeping the ball on the ground and passing well with odd long ball; in the 3rd a headed through ball lead to Sfakera scoring but the referee had blown for a foul before the ball entered the net. In the 5th there was a delay for injury after a Sfakera player was accidentally trodden on. In the 11th a long ball into the Dragotina box looked threatening but the striker just failed to control it.. Next minute was a real chance to score but when well placed Mera headed wide. In the next few minutes there was a Sfakera shot from 25 metres that was well wide and a cross that the goalkeeper intercepted. In the 19th Sfakera took the lead; playing out from the back the ball went through midfield and was played out to the overlapping Aggelos on the wing; his cross found an unmarked Pano who headed home. 1-0. The lead was to last just 3 minutes as an horrific mix up in the defence let Dragotina equalise. A long free kick was allowed to bounce twice (once inside the box) without either defender or goalkeeper making a decent effort to clear and the ball fell for the striker to poke home. 1-1. In the 23rd Sfakera broke quickly but a crunching tackle in the box lead to the ball being cleared and another injury delay. Sfakera then had a corner but it was overhit and went out on the far side; this was followed by a long shot that was blocked and a follow up header that was saved. In the 31st a visiting defender was shown Yellow for verbals and shortly after the Sfakera manager was sent off from the dug out. The visitors had a chance on 37 minutes but the shot was wide. In the 38th there was avery late foul on the Sfakera winger, by the previously booked player, and the referee showed unbelievable restraint and did not caution and send him off. The Sfakera player had to leave the pitch for a couple minutes for treatment. In the 41st the referee gave Sfakera a throw in the final third (the ball hadn't gone out!) and from it the ball was moved to the centre where a 22 metre shot was deflected by the goalkeepers hand onto the bar and out for a corner; from the corner there was great chance to score but the header was just wide. There was still time for Sfakera to put another header wide and have a long shot just over the bar. HT 1-1.
The pitch was in full shade but the wind remained making it rather chilly sat in the stand as the second half got underway. Sfakera were quick to attack and a cross from the left wing looked promising but was deflected out for a throw in. In the 50th it looked like Sfakera should score but somehow the striker couldn't get in a shot and the ball was part cleared to Alex; his long range effort was blocked. In the 54th Sfakera had a shot saved for a corner; this resulted in the ball being headed out, crossed back in through to the back of the box where it was then passed across into the centre. A Sfakera player completely miss hit his shot but the ball fell to Mera who blasted it home. 2-1. In the 62nd the visitors countered quickly but the final ball was just over hit and the attacker couldn't keep it in play. From the goal kick Sfakera played a further long ball towards the penalty area but the striker failed ti make contact despite a desparate lunge. Two further shots by Sfakera in the next few minutes were well over the bar. IN the 70th an attack by Dragotina; a long threatening ball that needed Nikos (the goalkeeper) to rush outside the box to head the ball clear. Both sides then made a substitution. In the 76th the visitors blocked a clearance and the ball fell into the centre just inside the box. Nikos was slow to react and a miss hit shot spun up and looped into the corner of the goal. 2-2. It was end to end play now; Sfakera with a cross caught by the goalkeeper; the visitors with a shot just over the bar; Sfakera with a blocked shot going for a corner that was cleared. As we entered the final 10 minutes Sfakera played a long ball centrally; it went over the centre half but the striker (who was struggling with an injury) couldn't react quickly enough and the ball ran out wide right; the winger ran into the box and along the bye line but his attempt from a tight angle was wide. A second Sfakera substitution in the 82nd. A great change for sfakera followed but again the striker, who should have scored, was foiled by a lunging tackle and the ball was cleared for a corner. A slight delay as the defender received some treatment having hurt himself in the tackle. The corner was taken in the 84th and an attempted header fell to the injured striker who managed to roll the ball into the goal. 3-2 to Safkera. Dragotina pushed forward but were offside; then the ball was played out wide and Nikos ran outside the box near the bye line to tackle the attacker; bringing the ball back into the box to pick it up and clear the threat. As we entered the final minutes Sfakera were twice caught offside and the visitors had a shot that was well wide. The last action was in the 91st minute when Sfakera had a free kick 40 metres out; the ball was blocked before it reached the penalty area and the referee blew for time. FT 3-2.
So Sfakera moved above Dragotina to 11th place in the league. Next weekend is Carnival weekend so no games.

Greece has put country in lockdown...…...so there is no football allowed now until 3rd April at the earliest. This is despite the fact there is not ONE case of Covid-19 on Corfu. Only way it can come is via people coming into Island and yet they have now only just stopped flights too from Italy and ferries too from Albania. to lock down those here when no cases is totally OTT and will affect business and individuals off work with no income. They need to work out how to monitor tourists before they get here to make sure they are not bringing it in!!! That should be the prioity not cancel village football with a crowd of 30 on a virus free Island...…..you cannot even go for a beer instead as all places closed; only allowed to go supermarket, chemist or bakers but you can also get a takeaway!!!

Well last season is not yet finished. They are still in discussions (arguments) about how to close off the season. The authorities want to stop the league as it was, promote the top team automatically and place the 2nd and 3rd in a playoff situation with team from upper league to sort out promotion. However a team outside the top three is complaining that is unfair; I guess they think they would finish in the top 3 and as far as I see reported the matter has yet to be resolved. Meanwhile the Greek Superleague restarted last night with the end of season playoffs and playouts! Top 6 keep points and play off for final positions and bottom eight likewise. Odd way to finish a league but we are in Greece.

Sfakera lost tp Kassioppi 3-1 in a game affected by shambolic refereeing and the strong gusty wind. Kassio had the early play and had a shot blocked and another wide. As early as the 7th Aggelos was shown a Yellow for throwing the ball to an opponent for a throw; the opponent wasn't watching so the ball hit him!. In the 9th Kassio break; player at least 2 yards offside.....no flag: referee blows for penalty to Kassio, show Jonathan a Yellow and it is 1-0. He ignored all protests from players and crowd re the obvious offside even he could have blown for though being 30 yards behind the play. A few more Kassio shots over the bar; they were benefiting from the wind behind them. Sfakera had their first chance in the 17th and equalised with a delightful 22m free kick curled into the top corner by Nikos. More Yellow cards to both sides but chances mainly to Kassio; Sfakera had one chance in the 37th with a long shot blocked and then the receiving player was offside. In teh 40th Sfakera made a substitution as Costas left the field. In teh 44th Kassio has a free kick some 35m out centrally; the referee lined the wall up some 12m from the ball even though he had the pitch markings to assist him!! Nikos in goal parry the shot onto the bar and it was cleared. Entering added time 2 corners to Sfakera but both were cleared. HT 1-1.
SFkera had most of the early play in the 2nd half, being offside and then having a shot over and another deflected for a corner. ALex was shown a Yellow for a foul. In the 57th Kassio took the lead with a quick break and the striker walked round the goalkeeper to tap in. 1-2. Kassio made a substitution and both sides received Yellows. In the 67th a free kick to Sfakera, one player moan as another said leave for him to take, bounce the ball down angrily and was shown Yellow! The visiting goalie saved the shot. Two more Kassio substitutions. In the 73rd Sfakera break well and have a shot very well saved and cleared. Immediately Kassio break but there are 2 balls on the pitch; unbelievably (in fact 1st time I have ever seen in any game) the referee let Kassio (who had put the 2nd ball into play) walk through and score....1-3. He ignored fierce protests from the crowd and players; in fact showing a Yellow card to a Sfakera player. Sfakera make 2 susstitutions, but in the 81st were reduced to 10 men when Aggelos showed dissent, got a 2nd Yellow and was off. In the 84th Kassio were allowed to take a throw in some 20m from where the ball went out!! The game came to a close with a Sfakera corner cleared followed by a break but Sfakera were offside.
FT 1-3.

Next Saturday at 4:30pm Sfakera play Acharavi at Nymphes.

Yesterdays game was a one sided affair with Acharavi running out easy 6-1 winners. There was a crowd of about 50 at its peak. SFakera had a much older average age of player and they were forced to defend from the kick off. Acharavi took the lead in the 2nd minute when a sharp shot rattled the underside of the bar, dropped down and was cleared but the linesman flagged it had crossed the line. It became 2-0 in the 20th when a long cross hit the back post, bounced kndly to present another attacker with a free header. In teh 24th a slight delay as a wacked clearance by Sfakera hit a team mate full in the face! 27th it was 3-0 the goalkeeper missed a cross and it was headed in at the back post. Thena Sfakera substitution due to injury. In the 30th it was 4-0 as Sfakera failed to clear the ball and a cross left a player with a tap in. Sfakera had still not had a shot at this time. In a rare break on the 33rd minute Sfakera tried a long shot from half way as the goalkeeper was on the edge of his box but it went wide. A couple of minutes later another long ball forward and a lucky bounce left the Sfakera midfielder clear of his markers; he arched a long shot over the goalkeeper into the far corner to make it 1-4. The referee blew for HT after just 42 minutes (something he was to repeat in the 2nd half.....he must have a very dodgy watch!!
The 2nd half started with 1 Sfakera sub and 2 for Acharavi. Soon followed by 2 more. Bewtween the 58th and 69th Sfakera picked up 3 yellow cards for fouls, yet a visiting player who left his foot in as the goalkeeper went to collect was unpunished! This half was more even due partly to the score; the substitutions and some fortunate defending. In the 71st Sfakera had a 25m shot on target but it was smartly saved. Next minute a foul on the edge of the box was judged toi be inside so a penalty to Acharavi.....1-5. The kick off taken by the Sfakera coach was jheust kicked out for a thrown in some 15m from any Sfakera player......most odd!! Finally in the 80th a visiting player was shown Yellow. In the 83rd it bacame 1-6 when a cross was headed in a t the near post. In the 86th Sfakera made a final substitution but had only been on for a few seconds when the referee blew up for FT (another 42 minute half).
