Once again, I am surprised that someone who so clearly is at odds with what Greece has to offer - our latest “Guest” - is spending time watching our forum. If companies here start to include ‘freebies’ in their current prices, such as the suggested air-con, then they will have even less money to enhance their business and hence the village. As costs continue to rise, this would create a downward spiral and our ‘beloved resort’ would suffer even more .... to the point where no one would come here.
If I can buy my morning coffee for €2, both at Roda Oasis or at our “Guest’s” coffee bar next door, which one will I choose? ... the smiley face and enthusiastic greeting, or the grumpy smirk? The answer is obvious, but the question then becomes ‘would I pay more for the smile?’ Would I, for example, pay an extra 50c to be welcomed and treated as a valued customer? Personally, I would, and that is added value!
As for living in the 1980s, ‘withgreekorigin' seems to have answered that and she was only born in the 1980s and young people of her age can be seen here in increasing numbers these days.

I was reading another forum recently and was struck by the number of people who usually frequent the more 'upmarket' resorts such as Agni and Kalami who will be staying in Roda this year. It appears they are attracted by what the village has to offer rather than time travel back to the 80's.

I have to agree with Kelly. From discovering Roda 4 years ago we have returned quite a few times. We enjoy the fact that it is not too commercialised and like to spend our time chatting with the restaurant/coffee bar owners and getting to learn about their families. As Steve has said they all have to earn a living but we find their prices ridiculously cheap and rather than being charged extra, on many occasions we have been given a complimentary drink at the end of our meal to thank us for our custom - hard pushed to find somewhere in the UK that would do that. Both of our sons, in their 20s, have also been out with us and although it may not have the nightclubs of Maga (thank God) they still enjoyed themselves making friends with bar staff and other holiday makers.

I haven't been back to Roda for over 30 years, I keep putting it off as I wanted to remember the way it used to be and keep those memories special. After joining this site and reading all your comments about Roda, I want to come back as great no changes! i don't care how much something costs but having that old feeling of Roda does it for me. I say lets keep this Oasis of 1980's as that is rare these day's.
Regards
Gill

There are more places open tonight, with Crusoe’s, Skouna and Vassia along the seafront, and several more stocking up.

The street lighting from Pixida to the bridge by Theodoros Resort was put out of action last year when a digger hit the main overhead cables. Theo has decided to fix them himself and they should be fully operational again this week.

I’m not sure if it’s a record, but Theodoros had the first Greek night of the season tonight and it’s still only April! More than 20 people were there and a great time was had by all.

There can be no doubt that Roda Oasis is setting new standards in the village, with its open, airy and bright public area and gardens. Nikos & Kostas have provided superb new amenities for their guests this year, including a stylish bar, a new reception desk, a quiet zone, a WiFi corner, an extensive new dining room and the best disabled facilities I have seen.

Never been there so have nothing to compare the new with the old - but it looks very swish!

Things are still changing as the season slips up a gear. These are the latest pics from Skouna & The Boathouse.
