Hi Everyone
I'm Shel, worked in the Drunken Sailor in May 1995 as a teenager whilst on holidays for a fortnight..think I wanted to escape the parents in the evening. I was offered by the Manager at the time Michelle, a lovely woman, to stay or come back when I finished school, but I never did, worked with a lovely girl called Claire... Absolutely loved Roda and had so much fun, really fond memories, was made to feel so welcome. I'm all grown up now at the grand old age of 34 with my own little Princess & Prince's and on my to do list is to take my children to this lovely family village, with its friendly atmosphere and glorious sunshine. I've lived a lot and travelled far and wide, but even 19 years later remains one of my favourite destinations. I wish I had returned years ago! Anyone got a spare rewind button? Anyway, let's press fast forward and hope to get to know my way around this forum and get back to Roda soon in 2015....P.s I'm the one in the Pink Dress x

Thanks Pete, you sure will. Look forward to seeing everyone too, seeing and making old and new friends. I just know if I love it there as much as I did last time. This place is going to get addictive and I'll end up in the regular returners club! If I come in June or the first half of July, I'll have Three Five Year Olds...figure that out... Poor Roda wherever we stay won't know what's hit it x

One of the best things about Roda and its people is the way they love children and welcome them to the village with open arms - you will not have a problem in that regard. It is addictive but we all look well on it! Hope you manage to get booked up and I am certain you will all enjoy yourselves.
regards, Kath.

Thanks Kath, Nice message..It's like having a new family on here, I think I may be adopted soon at this rate haha! My hardest decision is choosing where to stay and whether to book as a package or separate flight and accommodation. I need to make my mind up and you have never ever met a more indecisive woman than me before...I think anyway, I'm not sure x heehee x

One thing worth noting, Shel, is that most Roda regulars travel independentl ... booking each of their travel components seperately. It's often cheaper, but not always, if you're lucky enough to find a tour operator's special deal. What are your concerns about travelling independently? Maybe we can address those first and that will help you decide.

In a sentence....Because I've never done it before. I wouldn't know what's a good price/deal and what's not. I've always just gone to Thomson or Thomas Cook & gone for the All Inclusive hols. Don't get me wrong I'm still a bargain hunter, but I don't like to compromise quality too much to get the price low. Sadly if you pay cheap, you usually get cheap. I just want an average nice hol at a really good price. x

Steve is right ... its not always cheaper to book all components of your holiday independently. However we have been doing it this way for years now - we book our accommodation whilst in Roda for the following year and book our flights as soon as they are available (they are usually cheaper doing this but not always). About 4 years ago we didn't book a holiday until about 3 months before our departure date and picked up a "package" for a lot less than booking flight/accommodation separately.
We haven't stayed in any of the hotels in Roda, preferring self-catering apartments. I can recommend Theodoros - they have everything - a fantastic pool area (the best in Roda in my opinion) with a lovely kiddies section - a little play area with swings and reasonably priced food/snacks/drinks. There is a small supermarket where you can pick up your essentials and it is a short walk into the village / beach (about 10 minutes with little ones in tow).
A lot of forum members stay in Pipitsas accommodation which is in the middle of the village - behind Roda Park restaurant and whilst it may be more expensive than some other apartments she provides lots of extras such as Tv. dvd etc which may come in handy for the little ones - there is no pool - but as you will remember, you can use any pool in Roda so long as you don't take your own food/drink on the premises with you. We have never stayed at Pipitsas but legend has it that nothing is too much trouble for her and it is only a short 5 minute walk to the beach.
Whatever you need to know just shout - one of us will have stayed there/been there/done it!
regards, Kath.

Hi Shel, I know that booking all the elements of a holiday can be daunting, especially with children. After I was widowed and my children became way too old to come on holiday with me, I decided that as I loved Roda and always felt safe here I would come by myself. I had to do it independently as the single supplement was horrendous. However I booked a room at the Metallinos and flights with the cheapest and arranged a taxi at the airport. When I added it all it I saved hundreds of pounds which fed and watered me during my holiday. There is a good choice of rooms here from basic to more luxurious, and everyone has their favourites. Rooms are usually booked per room regardless of who stays so there are no under occupancy supplements. My children now have their own little ones and continue to come out independently. They like the Theodorus as the complex is enclosed and has a childrens play area , the rooms are above average especially in the Fiona extension and the maisonettes near the pool. If you come in school summer holidays the pools are nicely refreshing, several pools have Jacuzzis and children's pools which are warmer, but the sea is usually flat calm and as warm as a bath. My grand kids love it as it is very shallow for a long way out. My advice is look at all options, tour packages and independent and make your mind up. Don't forget that meals are very reasonable, but maybe fizzy drinks not such good value, my lot only drink bottled water which is cheap. I am sure that we could help you with average price of meals etc. , and the local supermarkets have familiar chocolates, sweets and crisps and there is ice cream around every corner. But in the end if independent is cheaper go for it and introduce your family to the magic that is Roda. Also the all inclusives in Roda are some way out of the village, which is a bind. Hope this helps a bit.
