Back for almost a week now so time to put pen to paper (so to speak). We arrived in the wee small hours of Tuesday 17th June, dumped cases in apartment, went to cashpoint and straight to Crusoes for a much needed drink (or 3). Then, thirst quenched and by now very hungry decided to go for a gyros at Roda Grill only to find it closed (and it was only 1.30am). So off to bed with rumbly tumblies. First couple of days slightly overcast but warm enough to lounge round the pool or just sit in Crusoes over a leisurely brunch and chat with friends. Thursday was glorious but early evening we had a massive downpour and at around midnight a terrific thunder/lightning storm (just made it back to the apartment before the heavens opened).
Although we stayed at Angelina Apartments (opp Theodoros) we spent most days at Charlies pool (Venus Apartments) - Theo has got some really swish looking new sunbeds but the cushions had not yet arrived so they were not at all comfortable. Having said that, the cushions arrived about a week into our holiday and people were still saying they were not comfortable - it was like sitting / lying on a wooden pallet (they look good though!). We were more than happy with the 10min walk to Charlies beautiful and peaceful pool - it suited us fine.
For brunch it was Crusoes and in the evenings we ate at our favourites, Roda Park, El Mar, Nikos Family Restaurant, Roxannes, Pixida and one night ventured to Acharavi and went to Odysseus - we couldn't complain about anything - lovely food in lovely surroundings with great friends.
We had the great pleasure of meeting Jacks (and her lovely parents) having felt as though we already knew her from the forum. We had some great laughs with friends old and new. We were delighted to be invited to Pete and Debbies beautiful new home - the photos really don't do it justice - it is fabulous. Kelly has already staked her claim to the bath for the occasional dip and sorry Jacks but that downstairs bedroom is far better suited to people of more senior years (such as Brian and myself). We didn't see as much of Kath and Rob as usual as Kath was a little under the weather for a while but we managed to catch up with them and Andrew intermittently.
We spent some time with Michelle (who joined us from her enforced bed-rest) and she is positively blooming and the Boathouse is a lovely place for a quiet drink away from it all.
We shared the highs and lows of Greece in the world cup and watched in dismay with Pete, Debbie, Jacks (and her parents) as they were beaten in a penalty shoot-out. We needed more than a few drinks to drown our sorrows that night.
All too quickly the fortnight was up - roll on next year (September we think).
regards, Kath (and Brian, Kelly & James)
