Calista for me - as Steve says it could be a boy owl! Calista would suit male or female.

That can't be the winning argument, Calista is also feminine.

I like Calista, Kelly, but I cannot find the word in my Greek dictionary. Kallistos, means 'best' and kallisteia is a 'beauty contest.' In any case, unless I can determine the sex of our Little Owl, who is on the post outside while I am writing, it needs to be a name that suits both male & female. Calista would seem to indicate a female - Kallistos would be more manly. Dora is definitely female and Doros might mean we are not in Roda but Rodos (Rhodes) - I'm getting confused now! Don't forget that there is no letter 'c' in the Greek language and that seems to rule out your Niko, Gil!

I've led a sheltered life, Brian - never heard of a boy called Sue. I've heard of the wise old owl though ... needs to be something Greek, I think. Steve
By the way Steve, I can't believe you've never heard of that!!! Surely you must remember this? . . .

If you were happy to assume your little friend is a female how about 'Athena' named after the Greek goddess of wisdom whose symbol is the owl, or maybe 'Zeus' who I think was her father and the god of the sky.

So maybe 'Hooty' or Hermy' ... any more ideas? He/she has started calling today in broad daylight. It's obviously comfortable with people coming and going and Jan was within 10 metres of it this morning. This was 30 minutes ago ...

Being in the veterinary business Kelly, I was rather hoping you'd offer to shin up the pole and decide on the sex. Our books tell us nothing and males must be indistinguishable from females - now wouldn't that be interesting? Sorry Chris - never heard of that song, but Johnny Cash never sang a note in tune so I'll pass on the video.
