He may be little, but he doesn't miss much ... our resident Little Owl last night.

Is this the "Dice Snake". The Dice Snake is non-venomous and harmless but its similar background colouring and blotchy markings often commit it to the same fate as its poisonous comrade, the "Horned Viper". It favours damp areas close to water and often feeds on small fish, frogs etc.

Dice Snake was our opinion but I have actually emailed pics to be identified (given my curiosity). Thankfully zooming in on the head prove it wasn't the horned viper or Ochia, as locally referred. Antony

To show the difference, this is a male nose-horned viper photographed nine years ago on a rocky hillside above Almiros. The horn can be clearly seen.

The light had almost gone, but we could see at least three Little Owls at the same time tonight - and it seems Hermy has a friend!

We used to have a garter snake but our son Scott when he was about eight took it out in he garden and it was never seen since. Another story about a snake. I was at a lake with my nephew fishing and we saw a snake on the water it came to the shore and just lied there for a while and then regurgitated a frog and seemed to die so we put it in a plastic bag and took it home to show Sue as she loves that sort of thing. We were staying with my Mother in law at the time so as I opened the bag to show them the b****y thing jumped out of the bag and went under the table it wasn't dead after all.
Well my mother in law was aghast and screamed do you know what that is No I said she replied it's a b****y adder you silly man get it out of here so I had the unenviable task of catching it to take it back where it came from.
The moral of the story is I now know what an adder looks like and know when to leave it alone

Isn't the moral of the story to keep well away from mother in laws. Antony

I'm not sure I'll ever be able to photograph 'five owls a'flocking', but we were greeted by this 'Ménage à trois' on our garden this morning. I think they knew I had my camera!
