We enjoy the FGTs. We have only been coming to Roda for 3 years so still have faces to put to names from the Forum. We have picked up lots of tips and enjoy listening to what's been going on in the village from those that live in Roda. Not compulsory but a couple of hours with friends old and new

I keep an eye on this forum....too often! OH is nodding as I type! I must admit I would feel a little reluctant to go to an FGT as it all seems a little "clicky"? I appreciate all the advice and recommendations but perhaps just feel that does not warrant attending an FGT with people that clearly are good friends and who would have nothing in common with us or vice versa.
Besides as we have to stay in Acharavi this year we do not warrant a mention in the "post your dates" section! A shame as most of our time and money will be spent in Roda, it will therefore be a very quiet FGT on October 1st at Pirates Bar, as we appear to be the only forum members there on that date!

But how do you know that you have nothing in common with other people until you meet them? There is nothing "clicky" about the fgts, the only reason a lot of visitors became friends was through meeting at one of them, I didn't add you to the "post your dates" list as this is for people staying in the village as we (admin) are trying to promote Roda, not the neighbouring villages, hope you understand. pete.

Actually no not really. We are only staying there as were not able to find anything in Roda on our limited budget this year! The fact we booked it was to get as close to Roda as we possibly could! I could have gone elsewhere even cheaper.
Even more of a reason not to attend an FGT....we staying in the next village!!!

That's not actually true, wx45, as I remember spending a long time talking to you and your wife. As in all informal meetings, conversation moves around and different subjects draw different people at different times. Sorry you feel as you do, but that is not my recollection.

I think it's fair to say that none of us were friends before we attended a get-together. We are all Rodaphiles and it's just nice to chat about our favourite village. If that makes us a clique, then we're guilty. To stop that becoming a problem, we need new blood - people who have other perspectives and experiences would enrich our meetings no end. Where you are staying is not an issue and we have had people attend from as far afield as St George South and Avliotes. There was a time when we suggested stopping the meetings and it was the members of the forum who asked us not to. It would be good to see anyone who loves Roda, I'm sick of holding Pete's hand!

I'll come to the FGT and hold both of your hands.......the FGT is where I met a lot of members and still intouch with them.....I'm hoping to meet NEW members this year, the first being at Roda Park on the 3rd Sept.and to hear what everyone has been up to??

To put this issue into perspective, there are probably five weeks of the season when regular forum members predominate. These are long-time Roda regulars who have settled into their favourite weeks in June & September. This is less than 20% of the season and leaves the other 80%, when the clique can be as little as me and a good book. A bit like Dracula, we thrive on new blood and there were two meetings recently when, in spite of many regulars, new people were the life & soul of the day. Please realise that old friends want to meet too - they have known each other now for several years and they have maybe just two hours in the year when they can come together under the umbrella of an FGT. We acknowledge and welcome the opinions and experiences of all those we don't know, but we can only share those with you if you come along. It would be good to spend an hour with you sometime ...

Hi Malc, the only decent photo of me & Steve holding hands is a bit too bright to show on here, Steve has got his yellow dress on & I'm wearing the pink one! Too much for some people to take in, so I'm afraid it'll have to stay off here. pete.

Pete - I think I remember that photo being taken! Didn't you have your lovely white socks on with your sandals with the diamante fastenings - and Steve had his flowing locks tied back in a fetching scrunchie! I know we couldn't fit a cigarette paper between you!

I really can't understand what all the fuss is about, regarding the Forum Get Togethers (FGTs) and am disappointed to read some of the derogatory comments posted in this thread.
As far as I can see, the FGT is just a service, voluntarily provided by the 'admin' of this Forum (Steve and Pete), to give Forum members the OPPORTUNITY to meet up with each other for a chat over a cup of coffee and to benefit from the wealth of knowledge and experiences of like-minded Roda visitors - be they first-timers or long-term regulars. There is certainly no obligation for Forum members to attend any of these planned social get-togethers - just as there is equally no obligation to post the dates of your holiday visits on the "We'll be there" pages!
On a personal note: I am a long-term regular visitor to Roda and in recent years have been fortunate enough to be able to visit more than once a year - and I always endeavour to turn-up to any FGT which is arranged during my stay (subject of course to any pre-planned commitments) purely as a courtesy, if for no other reason, to say hello and acknowledge the fact that Steve and/or Pete have put themselves out to arrange the meeting and to be there themselves - EVERY week of the holiday season.
Rgds, Chris
