Does anyone remember Zak who ran the Olive Press (next to the Golden Sands – Glass House) before the hotel forced him out. This would have been going back around 25 years but after the Olive Press he had other bars in/around Roda. His proper name was Iacovos (pronounced Yakavos) Badonos and he had previously lived in Karousades with his family. I seem to remember that he would go to Athens in the winter and am not sure whether he remained on the mainland (if he is still about at all). I returned to Roda last year after a good few years but could only squeeze so much catching up into one week. This year we are coming back for longer and was wondering whether Zak was about. Thanks, Antony

Ianko - Zac - did live in Karousades but got divorced many years ago. He remarried and lives permanently in Athens, but goes over to Corfu each year. We missed him by a day last year - so annoyed not to have seen him. He's still going strong and has never changed. We did go to the cemetary in Karousades though to visit the grave of Stephanos, his partner in the Olive Press. Ianko has two sons who are adults now but am unsure of where they live. He does go up to Old Perithia each time he is in Corfu to see Thomas, who used to dance at the Olive Press - at Taverna Foros. We too go up each year, although I have to say these days I could do with a chair lift to get back up from the taverna to where the car is parked! The drink doesn't help either.

Although to be fair any of the beachside restaurants and bars, from Nino's to Alexandros on the Beach all have views to die for, especially now that many have spread across the road onto the actual beach.
