Does anyone know if there's still a small taverna known as dirty dicks in karousades? This was probably going back about 20 years so is probably long gone.
As the nickname would suggest most uk inspectors wouldn't put a foot in the place, but the food was amazing!

I think its still there, is it the one on the right hand side of the road at the top of the hill on the bend and has a grill room? Owned by Thomas and his family. There's a newer bar before that on the left as you take the left turning from the Roda road called the Kathodon Café, well worth a visit in the middle of the day for refreshments! with great views across the mountains and down to the coast.

Yes - it's still there. Alesaios the owner is a long time friend of ours and we go up every year to see him. He had actually painted the place two years ago!! His mother, Aphrodite, has retired, but still puts in an appearance every now and then. As you say, amazing food, but I wouldn't touch the gin - it's the second time in my life in Corfu I've been given gin which glows in the dark. Not recommended!!!

Thanks for that both. I was going to add Alesaios' name but wasn't sure on the spelling. Can't believe his mother is still around. She seemed quite frail then. I dread to think about the gin, the wine was strong enough. You had to time finishing your bottle just right. The first time we went we made the school boy error of finishing the bottle before we had paid and found a new full bottle placed on our table. Dangerous stuff ? Antony

Many bars are shut at the moment particularly seasonal ones like Dirty Dicks, even a lot of the all year bars have closed temporarily due to the covid restrictions. It remains to be seen which re-open once these restrictions have been lifted. Jan

Sorry to contradict Jan - Alesaios (Dirty Dicks) is not a seasonal taverna and never has been it's always been a full year opening and was always busy in the winter with ex-pats etc. The owner has been a friend of mine for 30 years - the problem he has is there is no outside space and no way of opening a through way in the taverna. The front glass opens, but the back is kitchens etc - no outside space. I don't know if he will open again - I will try to contact him in the nexct few days - which I was going to do anyway as I haven't been in touch for ages.

Thank you for correcting me. I should have realised that, being in Karousades, it wouldn't be seasonal. Strangely enough I was driven passed there today and I think Thomas was outside it. Well I was told it was him. Steve had been many times but I have never been. News would be great if you can find out. But these restrictions are so limiting at the moment, with no end in sight, for bars and restaurants Jan.
