Tuesday saw us head off to visit Angelokastro, the historic castle to the north east of Paleo, the first shot is on the way there , looking from the beach at Aghios Georgos to the walk we did last year to Porto Timoni....
looking down to the beautiful bay of Aghios Georgos and Porto Timoni.....
the impressive Angelokastro..........
inside the tiny crypt......
the tiny church at the very top.....
some of the shallow graves hewn into the rock, you can make out the shape of the head & shuolders.....
If you think the views from the monastery at Paleo are good then you've got to make the climb up to this place, it's a fair few steps but so so worth it.......
Entrance is 2 euros for adults, 1 for kids & o.a.p's, there is ample parking space and a great little tavern with good prices. Get this on your "to do" list. pete.
Lovely photos. It sure is a hike on a hot day but well worth it. Parking can be a problem at times as it does get busy in the summer months. Its a place I would put in top 10 of places to visit on Corfu.
When you say a fair hike, do you mean from the car park to the castle? We'll be having a car for our holiday and are looking for some new, different, maybe lesser known places to go, rather than the usual touristy places, which we've already done (many times over).
The car park is right next to the entrance. I think by a 'fair hike' Pete means the walk from the entrance to the top. It is steep in places and also there are uneven parts where the rocks have been worn by the millions of people who have walked up them over the centuries. Much harder walk than going to the top of the Old Fort in Corfu Town but well worth it.
