Hi all Got a text from someone this evening telling me that Jet2 have added Glasgow to Corfu for summer 2014. Have gone on & priced the 'low cost' flight & for 2 people, 22kg of luggage each & seat reservation for 17th June - 1st July, it's £718!!!!!!!! Nothing low cost about that.

I read recently that Jet2 had reduced their prices for 2014, Jackie .... obviously not enough yet!

Out of curiosity, I did a wee check from Manchester - 16th June & it was coming in at £308 per person - still expensive. We worked out that flying from Glasgow with Jet2 would be over £50 more expensive, per person that it was flying with Easyjet from Manchester - return trains & a night in a hotel. But does the fact that it's a local airport outweigh the cost?!

Hi Jackie, it probably does when you look at the whole situation, time, travel, your own bed etc. pete.

Exactly, Pete. Don't think my dad's up for doing Manchester again. Going wasn't a problem, but coming back, you just want to get to your own house in the shortest amount of time.
Going to hold off just now, in the hope Easyjet do a big announcement - if not, might just hold off for Ryanair (Don't know what all the kerfuffle is about hidden costs - the exact same add-ons came up for Jet2.) to see what they can offer.

Nope! If Ryanair get me to Corfu & back, I don't care - and if they must insist in crashing, it'll hopefully be on my way home again.
I bet their not the only company with tales to tell. Bet if we knew what went on behind the scenes with any airline, we wouldn't want to fly with them.

Thomsons Hols are going through the roof for next year. When we got back in July I checked the same dates for next year from Cardiff and it £880 for a week at the Afroditi for both of us. I waited to book as friends were making up their mind to come with us and within a week it had shot up to £1.086. So I checked Bristol for a few days difference and it was £816 so I booked it and again within a day or so it had shot up to £906 and a week later it was sold out all be it it's available with another tour operator but still above £900. We used to arrange our own flights and book the Afroditi separate but that works out even more expensive as the fights alone come to more that booked as a package. Flights alone for the same week comes to £1.037 then to book the Hotel e350 all together that's another weeks holiday so a bit of searching definitely pays off. Good luck to all booking for neat year

Designing your own packages these days can make things infinitely variable. Easyjet fly from Bristol and I'm sure there will be bargain flights available from them if you check daily from now on - book with them now for an October return and you would pay little more than £100. Pete has easyJet'spage bookmarked and it takes just a couple of minutes each day if you have precise dates for your holiday. There can be cheap one-way flights with Thomson, but their return flights can be more expensive than their equivalent packages. Some more confident travellers are now booking one-way to Corfu, and then looking for a one-way return when they get here. It is the cheapest way. Afroditi's prices vary widely as their tour operator works the market. I heard of one couple last year coming for 2 weeks in May for £256, and others being asked for £1300!
