I have been trying to see the beach volleyball for four years now, Petra, and just when we have rearranged our return to the UK to be in Roda for the competition, we find that the date is different. I have missed it every time and I am beside myself with grief!
This year it was 3-7 July. Next year??? We think that the website for Greek beach volleyball is not updated properly - we'll let you know when we can.

Hi Bev,We saw it in 2005, not sure it was in the beginning of july... But if you are right, we can probably only see the finals (I hope we will.....we arrive the 11th... ), or maybe we will be only 1 week too late..

Kalimera Petra, it depends but I think you could be too late. Our first year we arrived on the Monday as they were clearing up afterwards the next year it was on our last weekend. Last year it was on our first weekend. They might vary it by a week. The locals dislike it as it brings nothing to the economy. The players bring all their own food, drink, do not dispose of their rubbish and use the local taverna toilets. It is interesting for the tourists who are staying in the village though. Bev

I think that they just have to do a bit more PR-ing ... because when staying in Acharavi last time, we accidently read a flyer or poster on the tournament ,otherwise we wouldn't have known it at all... And I really think the locals have to understand that they CAN make money out of something like this!!!! I see events like this happening all year round in Apeldoorn, where I live, we even think those events are TOO commercial.... For instance ,in my town they transform a square with tons of sand into a beachvolleybal-ground in the summertime, and the bars (around the square) turn into "tropicana"-bars with sand on their floors as well / and happy hours / c o c k tails a.s.o.... and if the weather is ok (which is never a problem in Roda ) their income is very good, if not they have a serious problem because people stay at home when it's raining...!! So I think the people from Roda just have to see the opportunities of these events !!!

Hi Petra, the locals I talked about are the Opa and Harbour Bar who are 30 metres away from the volleyball court. They actually front the courts and are open from early morning. Bev

Hopefully you can get the dates to match this year Steve. John loves watching the female competitions, along with the entire male population of Roda. I must admit I am partial to a bit of male comp. watching. Bev.

As we understand it, Petra, the beach volleyball competition is awarded to certain venues for a period of three years and this is Roda's second successive period. I believe it has been running here in the village for four years, which means we should hold it for a further two years. Julie has actually telephoned the organisers' office and they could not confirm anything - this is quite normal! As far as we know, it will still be held in Roda this year. Steve

All change! - we have heard today the the Masters' Beach Volleyball competition will not be held in Roda this year although there may be plans to hold a Corfiot tournament at different venues around the island. Steve
