Hi, we will be staying in Roda again this year (3rd August for 2 weeks). We are hiring a car this year for the whole holiday. We have two teenagers 17 & 15. Apart from Aqualand which is a definite again this year has anyone visited anywhere that they could recommend by car... ? Linda

Hi Linda, there are lots of great places to visit on Corfu......we hired a car last year and went up Mount Pantokrator......what a 'hairy' drive that is......we then went to Old Perithia, which is well worth a visit......makes you wonder what life would have been like all those years ago. Paleokastritsa has some stunning bays and a visit to the Monastry there is a must......Ooh there are lots and lots of places we have visited over the last 21 years.......I'm sure others will tell you of there favourites..... .....we are flying out in the morning, but are staying put in Roda this year.......up to now that is...lol.

Hi Lindylou, rob and I travel all over the island, the sunset at Agios Gordos is spectactular, as you drive out of Roda go straight at the lights, first right and follow the road until you get to the yellow junction (you'll see why i call it that when you get there lol) head towards Paleokastritsa (also worth a visit) just before Paleo, follow sign for Pelekas and follow road, sinaradies signs and then Agios Gordos, its an easy route but it takes about 90/100 minutes. Take beach shoes the sand is very hot and there are stones below the sea line (and if you visit Paleo you definately need the shoes! the sea is very cold but oh so worth going in), hope you have a wonderful time )

With a car, the world is your oyster as they say. I have never looked back from the first time we hired a car and drove all over the island. We saw parts of the island that you would not see, even on the best of excursions and tours. I would definately recommend Corfu Town, you could make a day trip or a night trip. The road is fairly easy enough to handle, using the Paleokasritsa North Road, then branching off to Roda. Drive down to the Lake Korrission, Corfu's large nature reserve. Visit other resorts, each one has its own ideas, and entertainment.

I agree with chris just get in the car and head off in any direction you want to, and you will see some wonderful places and views, Some times like we did one year we drove through a village just outside of paleo the road looked as though it went on, but got narrower and narrower until we reached a set of steps, had to reverse all the way back, much to the delight of a couple of dear old ladies who watched all of this happening.

First time we hired a car in Corfu, wally, we were driving from Petriti to Agios Nikolaos near Lefkimmi when we passed this old man limping along on a stick. Ten minutes later, we ended up in a near vertical dead-end at the far side of the village and the old man appeared from a small track, still limping, smiling and waving his stick at us. We must have travelled all of 50 metres in a straight line! (About ten hours per mile) Steve

Rob said I should mention the Three Brothers in Afiona... (just before St Georges north), this is pretty remote and high! the view from the balcony taverna is just breathtaking, the peace just wraps you up. Beautiful (take camera or camcorder!) ... you know there are so many beautiful places in Corfu ... but no where I'd rather stay than Roda!

Hi Ken That is it, it is fun and as I said before just go where you want to, turn off on any road and you will see some thing different small villages, large villages, narrow streets some very narrow just to test your driving skill. In the late 80s when we started going to Corfu quite a few of the roads you would be driving on tarmac then all of a sudden you would come to a dirt track with the biggest pot holes you could imagine. The very first year there were 4 adults and 4 kids so we hired a small minibus and when we came to these tracks everyone had to get out and walk, except the driver of course.
