Hi to everyone, I have used this site for information but have only just become a member. Me and my daughter have visited Roda for the last 3 years. Due to a change of circumstances she will not be able to go next year so, after much thought, I have decided to travel alone. As single package holidays are expensive I am venturing into independent booking. I have booked a room at Makis and am looking to book flights from Birmingham. Makis email says I will get instructions later for paying a deposit. I assume this is standard practice? I am looking forward to getting to know and chatting to other members. Any advice on single travel will be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Sharon. We book independently every year and although some places don't always take deposits it would appear that in the current climate of uncertain jobs etc. it has become necessary for a deposit to be paid in advance so that the villagers don't lose out when bookings are cancelled too late to be re let. I hope you have a great holiday and I'm sure being a single traveller wont be a problem for you. There are many more single travellers there as I'm sure you know from your previous holidays.

Hi, for many years I was a single traveller to Roda. Roda is such a good place to enjoy your holiday as a singleton. Once your flight is booked you can spoil yourself and book a taxi (use the link from Rodaonline) or use a transfer company such as A2B. Though these do seem to take in excess of 2 hours to get to Roda but are reasonable. Hope you enjoy your holiday and hope to see you out there.

Hey Sharon, welcome to the forum. When are you going to Roda?

Hi Sharon - coming alone and independently to Roda is the easiest thing in the world and you will see how many other single ladies are comfortable about being here by themselves.
The taking of deposits for accommodation is becoming more common, although everything is normally done on trust. It does pose problems for the owners as most only have Greek bank accounts and many are not as familar with computers as we are in the UK. However, the progress here in computer literacy has increased a thousand-fold since the village website started just five years ago. Many people would be interested to know what Makis proposes in this respect, be it an IBAN transfer, maybe through PayPal, or something else - please let us know.
I'm sure Ria will keep you informed of what they intend to do.
Best Wishes, Steve

Hi and thank you for the lovely welcome. I will be traveling in August Jacks as have to go during school holidays. Not heard from Ria at Makis yet but will post when I know how my deposit is to be paid.
