Sad news for many, but it could be the business opportunity of a lifetime for the right person. People come and people go, but Maggie & Des created a formula that worked and stood the test of time. Great food, in a trendy 50 cover bistro, a loyal clientele and the very best of personal service. If you have ever entertained thoughts of taking over a successful business in the sun, then this may be the break you have been waiting for. It is being offered for sale at a very affordable price and is ready to walk straight in to.

We all knew they would retire eventually but they will still be sorely missed both for their food and their personalities.
Enjoy your days in the sun Maggie and Des - you will be part of Roda's history for ever.
Happy retirement.

I do't know if Maggie or Des view this forum or not, but if they do, I would just like to say thank you for making our holidays in Roda that extra bit special and enjoy your well earned retirement.
My son Jack 1st manged to eat the big fish in there 8 years ago aged 10 and still has his certificate from Maggie to prove it.
Maggie is and was one of the nicest most welcoming people I've had the pleasure to meet and had a natural gift of making her guests feel like they were friends and special. She always had time for children as well. Although Des wasn't always around so much, when you spoke to him he was also a very nice man.
Over the years I've introduced many people to Roda and Maggies. Everyone really enjoyed going to Maggies a few times as an alternative to the other great restaurants in the town.
I remember being in there some years ago when there was quite a big crowd in. There was an old sing song going of war songs, novelty hats etc... and everyone had a great old time.
Whoever takes over the place has a very hard act to follow but I wish them well.
Do you know if Maggie and Des are retiring completely or do you think they might take on running a bar (without food) that might be a bit less work?

Am I right in thinking that Maggies was up for sale last year also, but Maggie was still there as it was not sold. Perhaps if it does not sell again, Maggie will still be there again this year, or will it just be closed down?
Also wondering if Bernies will re open this year after closure last season. What with the Crown closed, very little left up the old street.

You are right John & Tony, Maggie & Des were open to offers last year, but this year they are retiring for good and they are selling what is the perfect turnkey business at a very modest price. Last year's theme of tapas and mezes proved to be very successful and there must be some spirited indivdual out there who could take advantage of 23 years of hard work and innovation. This is a dynamic business and the wheels are already turning ...

I've heard nothing about Maggie's yet Dave, but been out of circulation for a couple of days. The building belongs to the Agas family - owners of 'island Tropicana.'

Steve That's interesting, I always thought the building belonged to George who used to run it as the Cheeky Monkey before he built the Drunken Sailor.
