anyone used this company? if so what are they like? if not can you recommend any other good car hire companies whom we can collect a car from teh airport from? www.corfucarrentals.com/index.asp?PageID=1we are pricing up car hire, though we are both a bit nervy of driving in Corfu, so still not sure if we will go this way if the strike continues, or opt for a Shuttle. is it an easy route from the airport to roda? i know we have done it in a taxi multiple times, but we don't really pay much attention to be honest (infact as some of the drivers scare me I tend to close my eyes!) we would be arriving at 21.00hrs so it will be getting/be dark. only countries we have driven in before other than England are Ireland (Nick took his test when living over there), and America.

Dromeas will leave a car at the airport for you becks. You don't need to look beyond the village. Why mot sen Miriam a personal message through the forum?
I did write and publish a route in the magazine once - I guess I still have it somewhere. The easiest way through Town is to follow the sea from Garitsa Bay - just 3 or 4 minutes from the aiirport - and come out past the port. Even some of the taxi drivers come this way.

I sent Miriam an email earlier today, just awaiting a response, as I did a search of old threads and noticed they had been mentioned quite abit.
The quote so far including the extra for tyre/undercarriage/window damage is coming up at 25 pound a day with this company, having not hired a car before we have no idea if its good or bad (we have checked hertz and all the other online companies but it is unclear just what they include in insurance and what they will suddenly add on at the airport~we don't like that)
I managed to find the route you did in a thread once, so emailed that to Nick at work for him to study!

I hear what you say about underside damage, becks but, in the event of a problem, would you have to pay an excess and if so, how much? These companies are very clever at making you think everything is covered. Only Dromeas covers these things and does not make excess charges.

if we opt for corfu car rentals we will email them first to be sure - it is an additional cover (which i have been advised by someone how has used them previously to ensure select) which comes at 2 euro per day (i've included that in the quote that i have obtained).
another option that we are considering is car hire one way, and shuttle back (the last day we wont be doing much anyway as fly at 14:00 so got to be at the airport for 12:00, so may a swell have a site seeing tour!). the price of the two added together, plus fuel, will be about the same as a taxi either way.

Steve Becks, I would highly recommend Dromeas based on personal experience. We've been using them now for many years (after being recommended them locally) and have found that both Miriam and Spiros always "go that extra mile" to ensure good service and best value. No "hidden" costs either. In fact this year, we've booked a car for the whole two weeks - from airport arrival to airport departure. (Excellent value when the costs, not to mention time saving, of not using airport transfers are also taken into consideration!) Chris

Still skeptical, becks - €2 per day for what? Is there still an excess to pay? With Dromeas - no extras, no excess.

I think Dromeas would be ur beat bet. Not through my own experience, but from what i've heard from others. Reputable company, with no hidden extras! What more would you want?

The 2 euro, from what I have been told (but you have to remember this is from a friend who has used the company not from the company so i would have to check it all out), covers you for any damage to the windows, tyres, and undercarriage, where as the insurance which comes with it does not. to the best of my knowledge there is no excess if this cover is purchased, but as i say this is only third hand information i have been given and if we were to rent a car from the company i would be double checking everything first. That isn't to say we will be hiring from them, I knwo a lot of people here recommend Dromeas, and we will be waiting for Dromeas to get back to us, and even then we may chose to go with a shuttle, or stick it out see what happens with the taxis. Personally we would much rather get a taxi, but at the moment this isn't looking like a very promising option.

This is the reply I have had from value plus, I am still awaiting an email back from dromeas I have sent them a pm on the forum also.
our insurance terms are on the site page, which you can read. We have a Zero Excess in the price of the rental. So, in an accident you do not have anything to pay. When you take out the extra coverage of Total Vehicle Protection, this covers the tyres, undercarriage and glass parts. This is optional and will be shown on the second page of the reservation with the optionals. This is 2 euro per day. Also, you have Fire & Theft coverage, Third Party, Limited Insurance Supplement and Personal Accident Insurance. Yes, it is good to know what you are covered for, alot of people just look at the price without really reading the fine print. I stress this to some when I get e-mail on the price difference and then when I ask them to really read their conditions and then mine, they see the differences.

Got to agree with Steve and Ol' Salty regarding Dromeas. We have hired cars from Spiros and at a good price, always had an excellent service and full insurance too, also 24 hrs on call should you need them. Would highly recommend them.

still no reply to either my email or private message to Dromeas. Had replies from both NSK and Corfu Car Hire/Value Plus. Will give it until weekend before making any decisions. The choice really is looking like between Dromeas and Corfu Car Hire/Value Plus as both offer insurance for the undercarriage etc with no excess.
