I'm afraid so kayjay - nobody can say with any certainty what is going to happen or when. The taxi drivers themselves are distraught and at a loss to know what to do. Many people are catching the bus into town and then the public service from there. This is far from satisfactory, especially if you arrive at awkward times and have children. Some accommodation owners are spending a lot of time at the iairport trying to help - I have seen them there myself when I collected Kath and family.
How many of you are there, where are you staying and when do you arrive?

Hi, we don't arrive till the 15th so hopefully things will be sorted by then. If not we will need to have a plan B. It's just the 2 of us and we're staying at Metallinos so we can contact Costas or book a shuttle bus. We will get there one way or the other!

I have to be careful how I put this. Is the government/local government doing anything about this I wonder. The reason I ask, we can see from posts above that a number of visitors to Corfu are, or will suffer because of this strike. I appreciate this is probably why, but the governments must see that it is affecting tourism greatly, and could have a serious knock on effect. The Taxi Service is the transport artery of Corfu and is much needed. Both sides of the equation should look further than their own pockets and see the problems arising.
I sincerely hope all those travelling to Corfu indeed have no hassle, or little hassle getting to Roda, or other destinations.

There are 7 of us arriving next Friday 12th, at 22.45 ....including a baby just 12 months old. We booked 2 taxis in April so really hoping this strike will be over, as we would need 2 cars to pick us up or a Minibus. We are staying at Makis.

my family will leave a minibus (hired at Loft rent- a-car in Roda )at the airport tomorrow morning very early and this minibus has to go back to Roda I guess.... meaning to say...if someone wants to hire the minibus tomorrow 1st of august ,to drive to Roda (not sure if it's available or rented out already) , they could always contact the Loft office at 0030-26630-64355 to ask about it...

i wouldn't count on the strike being over Jean. I was with Makis when the strike was reported on TV tonight - he is very worried. It might be worth contacting Nektaria by email to ask if anything can be done to pick you up. - makisstudiosroda@yahoo.gr.

have you contacted your accommodation owners to see if they can collect you, magpiestjames? They are doing their best to help in this crisis, but they do need prior notice.

I caught the end of a Greek TV broadcast last night becks, so I missed most of what was said. I'll make a point of watching more closely over the next couple of days.
