Hiya,
We are planning our May holiday, and as we have abit more spare cash than previous years we are thinking of doing some excursions - normally we dont look on the excursions board at all so wonderd what is on offer through local companies.
We like waterparks, though in May it will obviously depend on weather. Can you still do Hydropolis and Aquapark from Roda?
We have read about Calypso and Seal Island, is that something that can be arranged from Roda, or what about Corfu Town by Night?
Are there any other excursions we have missed that people can think of that may interest us (excluding the boat trips?) And do they do pick ups in Roda?
Last up, how much is car hire, and what are the roads really like for driving on?
Any help appreciated, thanks.

Hi Becks - glad to see you will be exploring this beautiful island. There is no doubt that Nostos will not be at their old location. Whether they relocate remains to be seen. HN Travel can help you with all the trips and, as I have said before, even trips with the same name, are often quite different. You will be able to visit Hydropolis and Aqualand but, with the latter, be sure to ask about transfer times. Some excursions go straight there, and others pick up all over the place. Hydropolis is actually within walking distance but you can sometimes find a 'trip' that is cheaper than paying at the gate.
I think everyone does the Kalypso trip and it is a great experience. Again, the transfers may vary with different operators. Corfu Town by night is a good option and there may be different programmes to include this. There are loads of other trips - Paleokastritsa is a heavily discounted one because of its popularity, and there are all sorts of cruises from various places. Perhaps other people will tell you about their favourites.
For car hire, you will need to contact a local company as prices tend to change every year. Personally, I always recommend Dromeas for the personal service and the truly 'all-inclusive' cover. Don't forget that the cheapest is not always the best. Certainly, the roads are different, but most of us adapt very quickly. My first experience was driving all the way from St George in the south up to Roda and I've been here ever since. Now, there's an incentive!

Thanks Steve, all is sounding very promising then for May - esp as it is looking like we may have two weeks to fill now not one in Roda if all goes to plan

Hi Becky as well as all the things Steve mentioned there is "The Grand Island Tour" which takes in all the top half of the island - have a look at my write up in this part of the forum, this trip takes in all the sights & stops for lunch at Paleo. With all the coaches on the island being relatively new it should be good way to see a lot of the island in comfort. pete.

Hi Becksyj, John and I always use NSK for excursions, they have 2 offices in Roda, we also have used them twice for carhire. We find the service friendly and never had any problem with them. They do the Grand Tour, also Aqualand. Hope this helps and you enjoy your trip. Bev

Slightly off topic, but is there any chance that Nostos may be relocating? It would be awful if they were no longer there.
I agree with Steve re car hire from Dromeas - an excellent service and truly 'all inclusive / fully comprehensive'
regards, Kath.

Hi Kath - Rena's husband Vikis had a bad fall at work some time ago and they are staying in town for the time being. I don't expect them to be around for a while, so I guess we will have to wait

Nice one Becky, you can do the Calypso Star trip on your own, you just have to get yourselves to Corfu town, stroll along to the harbour & book direct with the people who run the boat, just make sure you allow time to catch your transport back to Roda. If i remember correctly the boat goes out every 75 minutes. pete.

Are the buses to Corfu Town any good?

Local buses are fine Becky, usually prompt, clean & inexpensive, once again check the times of the last one back. There are two bus stops in the village, one at each end of the beach road, so not too far from the Pegasus Hotel, just a few yards down once you turn in at the crossroads. pete.

We hired a car for a day last year, drove to Paleo where we spent a few hours including going on a boat trip around the caves.
We then drove to Corfu town and went on Kalypso Star which was great and so relaxing. Like Pete said you can just turn up and pay the men on the boat. There's a sign on the pavement telling you what times the boat leaves. We then walked into the town and spent a couple of hours sightseeing and souvenir shopping before heading back to Roda for our evening meal.
It was a fantastic day, and not too expensive as it was all done independently.

You had an all-inclusive day at Hydrolpolis too, didn't you, Nikki?

Yes I did Jackie, that was another really good day out booked through Nostos. If weather permits I'd like to go there twice this year on the all inclusive days.
