Since George & Helen have retired, will there be any local boat trips to be had? We don't want to have to travel all the way down to Corfu town by coach, and shipped out to sea down there.

Hi Jackie, i seem to remember Steve telling me that there would be no boat trips from the north of the island next year due to the channels at the harbours silting up & there being no money to have them dredged. Captain George spent a full week just going back & to, to try to disturb the silt with his propellers. Whether there will be trips from Kasiopi i don't know - is it classed as the north or the east ? pete.

Hi Pete, I was talking to Steve about this very subject when I was out in September. With The continuous change to the currents and the effects of the dread 'Global Warming' showing up more and more on shallow water areas, this is causing major problems for the Chart makers. Trying to keep the major Shipping Routes surveyed/charted is a non-stop process. Minor channels (leisure boat channels) are therefore taking a back seat with the result that accurate charts of small Harbours are becoming a rare commodity. I am trying to glean info from friends of mine in the Hydrographers Office as to the effects on the North of Corfu. I'll post more as the 'Gen' gets to me.

I'll need to have a look into Kassiopi then. At least that's not far on the bus.

Just been on a Kassiopi website & it gives details of cruises from Kassiopi - so you must still be able to sail from there. Gonna keep an eye on it for next year, cos we want to do a few things, instead of lying around the pool all day - and we may have a 16 year old with us, so don't want him getting bored either.

Hi Jacks, we took a boat out from Kassiopi in May and had a great day. Just the thing for an adventurous 16 year-old. No prob if he's never ''driven'' a boat before, good run-round the boat given. drop me a PM if you'd like more info. I'm sure that there will still be cruises from the north of the Island as the local Skippers will have the shifting shingle/sand banks well sussed-out before the start of the Season. Info of this sort is passed (usually in the taverna) to other seamen (even competitors) as soon as possible. I'll keep an ear open on the Seamans network to see if anything ''drifts'' in. TTFN ... Johno

lol Thank you Johno! Any chance you could pm me the info you have on the boats?
It's funny that I'm sitting here trying to figure out what to do on holiday, when I've not even booked yet! lol

kassiopi-cosmic.com - contact details on this website although they are closed for the winter. Mike and Vera have run this business for years and will give you all the information you need re boat trips from Kassiopi. From memory they used to pick up in Roda - but this may have changed, you will have to ask. Hope this helps.

Lisy, that's the site I was looking at a couple of nights ago. I've got it saved to my faves, so that I can have another look nearer the beginning of the season & maybe contact them for prices etc. Thanks for the help!

Don't forget if you want to actually hire a boat you dont have to go to Kassiopi, Spiro (Rik's Boats) has plenty to hire out straight from the beach in Roda
