Most restaurants will prepare a pasta dish with your own pasta if you ask them in the morning for that night. The same goes for stuffed peppers & tomatoes. I'm surprised that does not appear on almost everyone's menu as it is so popular. I believe I am right in saying you can find every day of the season at Roda Park and many others too.
Pete's suggestion is a good one - learn the Greek for your favourite meals, it is one of the best places to start a language and you would be surprised how much more you can understand about a dish when you cut out some one's earlier translation into English. 'Yemista' is what you need for the peppers & tomatoes - it means literally 'stuffed.'
Don't forget also, some things that are not on the menu can often be instantly produced if you have the courage to ask. Because most meals are freshly prepared, the Greeks themselves rarely look at the menu - they just order what they want. Give it a try ...

Thanks for your replies. I will bring some pasta out with me and hopefully have some tasty pasta dishes. We normally eat at Nino's on the Beach, Panorama, Nico's and a couple of restaurants in Acharavi-Odyuessus and Roda Park. We tried Roda Park a few years ago but had a bad experience so have never returned there. We have been coming to Roda now for about 10 years so are quite familiar with the menu's and are getting quite good at ordering in Greek. Yemista used to be on most menu's but last year I asked for it at Nico's and Lucy said it was not very popular but she would cook it for me one night. I ordered it in the morning and she cooked it that night. Very nice. Can't wait to return in June and taste the lovely food again!

As with everywhere - rumours abound becks. There is nothing happening yet at New Port anad I continue to hear conflicting opinions, the last one being that they will open for the four peak months only. As soon as they show, or not, i will let you know.

newtonsus, the Opa does stuffed tomatoes. They have been on their menu every year we have been going. They are a favourite of Eleni so I can't see them coming off. I had them last year(very unusual as am huge carnivore) and they were delicious. Also had their fried courgettes and peppers. Beautiful.

Steve Thanks Steve, hopefully I may get to sample their cuisine again at some point this year then In the meantime I'm sure that Roda Park, and Smileys will keep me satisfied (and we have Opa, and Nikos to try this year too amongst others, with 21 nights to fill there are no excuses!)

You should also try the Odyseus, Beck. Great, great restaurant. My first stop this year.

Sorry to bother you Steve, when does Roda's peak season start, I have an anxious family awaiting news about New Port and we are arguing that peak starts either June or July. Its their favourite restaurant and my 5 year old nephew so loves Sam (Stamatis). xx

Hi boydies - it was suggested that New Port may open for just four months this year, but it is still just conjecture at this point. The whole of that block of businesses is now empty - it is such a shame as it is one of the best locations in the village. There is no sign of anyone new and if Adonis does not return, there will be nothing between Smileys & OPA. When Stamatis delivered some logs for me a few weeks ago, he was busy looking for a summer job elsewhere. If anything changes, I will say something on the forum.

Steve, I wonder if the fact that there will / may be nothing between Smiley's and OPA had any bearing on Rena's decision to relocate? You are right in saying it is one of the best locations in Roda but it is looking increasingly bleak along that stretch and if you are a new tourist coming from the Crusoes end you may turn around at Smiley's thinking there is nothing else to see and totally miss out on OPA and the Harbour Bar.
regards, Kath.

Yeah, you're right, Kath - that stretch is going to be looking rather dire, isn't it?
I do hope that the businesses at that end of Roda don't suffer because of it.

I think both Kath and Jacks are spot on. Unless new tourists do a bit of homework on Roda before they arrive they could very well miss out on both a fantastic restaurant in Opa and a good atmosphere in the Harbour Bar. Maybe these two businesses need to seriously think about some form of advertising sign in the village letting holidaymakers know exactly where they are and that they are open for business.

You're quite right Kath - so many people turn around both there and at the bridge, and they miss some of the best that is for offer in Roda.
Evidently, all of those properties belong to one owner from Corfu Town and the site was developed originally as a hotel. It seems that the areas in front of Nostos etc., were once attractive gardens - does anyone remember that, with photos perhaps?
The problem is that the rents wanted by the owner are excessive and nobody is able to live with them and still turn a profit. I know what you will say to that, but it is a common story.
Rena is just another victim of the silly prices, but she is excited about the new joint venture with NSK in the Pangalos building. This agency will be totally seperate from the other NSK office near Silver Beach.

I dont think I could recommend anywhere to eat anywhere not just in Roda. Everyone has different tastes and idea's on foods. I have worked in the catering industry since I was a very young lady at 14 and was running my own fish shop at Barry Island Wales at 17.. I know what I like and what I dont like, but I give everyone a chance. I have found several wonderful places to eat in Roda and only 1 that I have had a problem with a frozen experience. Not saying the food was bad but what I ordered came frozen in the middle. Not very good customer service serving frozen food. But in saying that they pinged it in the micro and it was tasty but I didn't go back last year because of that. Maybe this year I will try again and give them a second chance as we all deserve it. Hubby's food was totally opposite and he throughly enjoyed his. He's go back again with no qualms. Which is what I say no one can really say which place to go to eat or not as we are all different. Maybe they was having a slow day and never had enough of the dish I ordered that day and had to use the freezer supplies. We have all done that ourselves.. I know one place I will be going back to this year as I have had glorious meals every time we have been .. We will be also trying many more too .

Hi Steve, thanks for that and fingers crossed that some sort of business will open there as it is such a gorgeous spot. I am glad to hear that all is looking good for Rena. Take care. Susan. xx
