New Port got off to a shaky start this year and did not seem to pick up until July. Of course, there were less customers to be had but, for some reason, those who were here chose to take their business elsewhere. I have my ideas why this happened, and so may you.
There have been rumours all summer about Adonis not returning in 2011 and these came from both tourists and local Greek people. It's been on & off all season. I suspect that even he has not yet decided. He is usually one of the first to open in April (& first to close in October!) so, with Easter on 24th April, I guess we will all have to wait until then.

sadly bev i have never had the chance to dine in BALI ,my loss . john knows how to treat a lady.i dont eat in some establishments for reasons that i have explained in the past. anyone who knows me knows i love drosia this summer i had a bad meal in there.didnt kick off just explained to ADONIS that i could not eat it , paid for the meals ,4 and left my family in drosia and retired to the roundabout some time later jackie appeared with another meal as a carry out.it was sound.what i am trying to say is if i had spoken in a disparaging way to other tourists.damage would have possibly been done and never repaired,i chose not to, but everyone is entitled to their opinion and the right to criticise . me ?i will give anyone a chance but like johno says once bitten.. as for the newport its not been the same since vangelis left. and a lot of people must remember his partnership with yanni, now at roda park what adouble act oh bev i once had a indian meal in aberriswth.abberswth sod it in wales does that count

I will add to this topic and say that the worst meal we have ever, ever, eaten in our lives, was the Chinese in Roda two years ago. First time visit and the last. Two sweet and sour prawns - two prawns each in red coloured sugary water, two prawn curries - two prawns each and lettuce, cauliflower, spinach and cabbage made up the rest. All meals stone cold. We walked out in disgust and will never go back. It was meant to be a treat for two friends we were with who wanted a change from Greek food and even though we had been told the food was rubbish we gave it a try. Ended up in the apartment with sandwiches and me furious. It was overpriced as well. Lesson learned. We passed on the exerience to other people who were contemplating going and and decided not to bother and went elsewhere. Our comments in the restaurant (my parting shot was 'if you want a tip - shut down') were ignored as last year we were told by two other friends that the meal they had in there was even worse than ours!

I agree the only bad meal I had in Roda was at the Chinese many years ago, overpriced and poor quality. So it was no surprise to see it was closed and up for sale on my visits this year.

For Greek food you can't go wrong with Nikos Family Taverna. Lucy and Nikos and the two boys are a lovely family. The Roda Park is also well liked and Kostas and his staff are wonderful entertainers. The Italian Pixida at the crossroads is good. The Drossia is good for barbequed steaks etc, after that you can go as Greek or English as you want with any of the rest. With the demise of the Chinese can't tnink of a bad place.

Thanks Janiemou and Chrissey - your suggestions are already amongst our favourites - I was actually curious about the favourite restaurant of Bev (guest) as she talked about it without actually naming it - and I'm always looking to try possible "new" places.
regards, Kath.

Proves the point, really, because the Chinese Restaurant did not re-open this year.

It's up to Bev to name the restaurant Kath, but I think you have already eaten there.

Well in answer Kath, my favourite is and always will be OPA. I'm sure you have tried it. Have had a couple of sub standard meals over the years but the service more than made up. Yiannis even came out to apologise one night, asking if we would mind waiting as they were really busy. We didn't mind in the slighest, we are on holiday and have allnight. Opa is our 1st night and last night. We have never been in Smiley's, mainly due to the hassling, we even contemplate walking along the beach to avoid it. Sthelensaint, Drossia is a favourite too, it's the location that puts us off eating there at night. They know how to please customers. We couldn't eat the chips so the waiter was so concerned he asked if we would like baked potatoes instead. The reason we left the chips was, we were full. (By the way, we have had some lovely meals in Llangollen, Wales ;D ;D). Steve the bread is delicious but I don't like to eat bread with my meals, unless of course having tzaziki and taramsolata. Oh Steve can I become a member again? I promise to behave. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well the wife and I have been to Roda 4 time recently and i dont think you can beat Drossia, fair enough it is on the "way out" of the centre but only about 200 metres, also you cant go far wrong if you visit the Melinda apartments (next to crossroads) when they do their specials approx twice a week, for value, friendliness & taste the meals are fantastic.

Hi Bev - you mention tzatziki & taramasolata to eat with your bread, but everyone seems to have missed my favourite - tyrokafteri. I believe it is feta and yoghurt mashed together with chilli and it makes a wonderful starter if you like a little spice in your life. Not sure about all the smiley faces, Bev, but people who love Roda and contribute to the forum are always welcomed as members. ;D ;D Steve
