Hello everyone, hope you are well.
I returned home on 29th of june, had a wee spree in duty free on the way back. In the last 4 days i have had the wee spree taken out of my account not just once, but 7 times now. It is all adding up! id like to know if anyone else had similar problem? Im missing the sun :-)

I thought had best point out that i used my debit card all over Roda and in the cash machines in Roda and have had no problems whatsoever with those transactions. Just the duty free shop ;D

Hi TA this is a new one to me. I've been using my cards for years at the DF Shop and never had a problem. This sounds like a problem with the till. A 'sticky button' on the till may register a sale several times with the operator having no idea that this is happening. Hope you saved your receipts as proof as it makes life much easier to 'claw back' money not spent. If you had money to ''Spree'' then your hols were cheaper than you had budgeted for, Brill !!

sadly i didn't keep the receipt as several months ago and came out when i came home in the same week too, i thought that was it. , bank suggested i contact shop directly but as it has come out once more today i have had to close account as i cant afford it and not much chance of getting it back! the payments are coming out daily, all for exact same amount, and is all adding up! Just a one off obviously but ill use cash next time .

Hi Tartanannie, don't give up so easily, surely the bank should be helping you more with this one, as you can obviously proove that it isn't you using this card then you can not be liable for paying the bill. I had a case of a charge being made on my bank card once - it was for petrol at the other end of the country, they refunded the amount straight away on condition that i would pay it if their investigation showed that it was me who used it - not exactly the same but not too different. For all you & the bank know your card may have been cloned & therefore the banks fraud squad should look in to it. Get back down to them & demand some action good luck. pete.

Hi tartanannie - I agree with Pete - do not give up. Did I see that this happened at the airport duty free shop? If it was a faulty till, then they will still have till rolls. You know fairly accurately, the date & time of the purchase - make them go and look. Am I correct in saying it is Hellenic Duty Free Shopping that have the franchise?
On their website, the contact is listed as:
Manager: BILL KOTZIALIS Telephone: +30 2661 0 37 060 (available on Skype) Fax: +30 2661 0 42 800
keep trying ...

Steve and Pete are right - you must get back on to them - why should you be out of pocket through no fault of your own. We had a problem like this when transactions were made on my husband's credit card - his card had been cloned and after 3/4 transactions the card company contacted us as they know about their customers' spending history and can quite easily tell that these transactions were not within our normal spending patterns (this is what they told us when they said they knew immediately we werent responsible). All of the money was credited back to us and it didnt cost us a penny.
Get back on to them - good luck!
regards, Kath.

Ok let me try and help first are the amounts all the same? Did you have a problem at the till with the chip n pin machine? Do you know exactly what was purchased? How many times has this come out your account since your return? What bank are you with? Was your card taken out of your sight?
I work in retail and it is my job if a customer has a similar problem to get to the bottom of the problem. When this happens here it could be a blip in the system which the bank declines the charge, customer is adament that they have the funds so we try again and it goes through or the customer removes the card too early therefore transaction not complete. When this happens sometimes the first amount goes to a pending account, making it look like the funds have been taken more than once! So after a few days the bank realise that we have only one authorisation number and realise the other amount back to customer it never hits the store bank account floats in the middle. let me know and I will see if I can advise you ! lynda

You need to put in writing your complaint to the bank, the bank have to get either VISA or Mastercard to investigate and provide proof that you used the card ie receipts, do not be fobbed off, a verbal complaint carries no weight. If they do not sort this out you can ask the banking ombudsman to look in to it. It is not your job to chase after the shop it is the banks job through either VISA or Mastercard, CC

Ive also had dealings when the authorisation centre will ask us to provide reciepts and even CCTV footage to prove that a customer did use the card. Im quite sure there will be CCTV footage of these tills at the airport. Dont give in make them prove it was you !!!! Let us know how you get on. xx

That's a good point that cuthbert makes, tartanannie. I learned a long time ago that everything must be in writing. It seems like a lot of trouble at the time but, if you really want to get your money back, it is the only way.
Apart from giving you an exact record of what as said, by whom & when, it sends out signals to the other party that you are deadly serious. They know that letters will form part of any legal case later on and they do respond differently.
