Are there any on-going strikes affecting Corfu at the moment? There hasn't been much media coverage in Uk at the moment

Hi Kernowman, i got back on tuesday morning and everything was ok during my stay, the service at the airport was better than ever - 10 mins to get the cases, all the cash machines were working every time i tried them. I think the bulk of protests are on the mainland - only heard the financial situation mentioned once. pete.

Should not worry about it too much Kernowman. This was from the BBC News forum this morning. The Greek government, along with the Tourist Office has come to an agreement that they will help Tourists who are held up, stranded in Greece, due to strikes, and other actions taken in the matter of the Greek Austerity process. For more details, read the following link article from the BBC.
GREECE TO HELP TOURISTS

Strikes are an everyday part of life in Greece. Being one of the most democratic countries, everyone is encouraged to have his or her say and the principle of power being administered by the people is alive and kicking. Half of Greece's population live in Athens and it is there that most of the stronger feelings erupt. Strikes in other parts of the country are usually peaceful protests relating to important issues. Rarely do they they come to the attention of holidaymakers in the resorts.

''Power to the People'' an old saw indeed and as Greece is recognised as the seat of Democracy it should come as no surprise that strikes are more routine. Unfortunately with the sensationalist media these days even the most peaceful of disputes are blown up out of all proportion. Oops, I feel the soap box looming large again, perhaps a glass of wine.......
