How old is this picture? I remember the 'Kind hearted place' when it was owned by an old man (cant remember his name) we used to have breakfast there nearly every day. He wasnt too steady on his feet and as he carried the breakfast to our table i always thought he would drop it!!! Then he would write our bill out on a cigarette paper ;D Does anyone else remember him?

Hi Tracy - this is a paragraph from something that Des Nouvel wrote a while ago regarding the gentleman you refer to:
'On a more personal note – the village lost a couple of its long-time ‘colourful’ characters this year. Nikos Pangalos, the owner of the old beach-front taverna, ‘The Kind-Hearted Place’, opposite Crusoe’s Bar, passed away aged 83 years after a lengthy period of incapacity and some three weeks later, his sister Mary, a stalwart in the taverna’s kitchen all these years, followed Nikos. We miss them both so much and the memory of Nikos shuffling towards your table at the end of the meal with his notepad to take details from you of what you had already eaten in order to make out your bill remains very strong, and make no mistake, if you omitted even one portion of chips in your declaration he would tell you in his quiet voice “I think you have some potatoes …. Yes?” as you watched your money disappear into the aging folds of the most battered wallet imaginable you wondered if the interview had been at all necessary because the old guy knew to the penny how much he was going to charge you in the first place. But then, the Greeks did invent live theatre didn’t they'.

What a shame, Nikos was a great character i remember him well, and his sisters food was amazing, the best breakfast in Roda. Now ive read that i also remember the battered old wallet.
