Kala Xristougenna!/Merry Christmas. In a few days we will celebrate Christmas, and I thought it would be a nice idea to post a Greek christmassong every day .This way we can get a bit of the Greek christmasfeeling! On facebook I read, that although its very cold everywhere in Europe, in Athens it was semi-sunny and 19 degrees C.last weekend !!I didn't check on Kerkyra though, maybe the temp. was somewhere in the middle? But the Greek will be jealous , because it looks like WE will be having the WHITE Christmas for the first time in years! ;D I will start with Corfu´s (and 1 of Greece´s biggest )star Sakis Rouvas.

I wanted to post the greek lyrics as well so you could sing-a-long (you UK people like karaoke so much ;D) but somehow it seems I cannot post the greek letters anymore...

I'm not sure that you can post anything but English on the forum, Petra. We did question this once and it seems that US forums must be in English so that the CIA can see what you are saying! ;D The only Greek we have posted has been written in a different document and posted as a JPEG image.

I love the shots of Meteora in the Greek Christmas Song, Chris, one of the places we most want to visit. Not sure how we'll manage with the wheelchair though! You can now visit Meteora on a (long) day trip from Roda. It can be booked through NOSTOS TRAVELSteve

A full day for supermarket shopping Petra! - you definitely need to move to Corfu. ;D We were in the biggest supermarket in Acharavi yesterday and there were three people in the checkout queue - normally there are only two! ;D Steve

Hi Julie & Steve, thought your story about the supermarket was ironic, our local Asda ran out of sprouts yesterday!!!!, personally I can't see what all the fuss is about, most shops are open Boxing day plus am working all the festive season so being a little bah humbug. Anyway incase I forget Xronia Polla to you both and to all the members and everyone in Roda of course Joolsd

Hi Jools - I agree with you - it's interesting that Christmas TV advertising started in earnest today. Until today everyone has said 'Xronia Polla' but now they are saying 'Kali Xristouyienna'. I guess it must be Christmas soon! And on Monday .... it's back to normal.

Crikey, you were looking for sprouts yesterday! I've had mine on a low light since early November lol!
Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy 2010 to one and all!

We'll have a little sprouts story in the next magazine, Kath. If yours have been on the stove since November, my Mum would love them - they'd be the perfect accompaniment to the chicken drumsticks that have been simmering gently for the last three weeks! ;D Steve

We called in briefly to the Mercato supermarket in Sidari today at 2:00pm. For once, all three checkouts were in operation, but with only two customers! - On Christmas Eve! When we went this morning to see Anna & Maria from Alexandros, we were reminded that one of the treats on Christmas Day is 'egg & lemon soup'. This is something you will never find in a restaurant which is such a shame. It is a light, frothy soup with fresh eggs, lemons straight from the tree and rice - it is nothing short of spectacular. Let's hope we get to try it again soon!
