We've never seen this happen before - have you?. At 11:30 this morning, Rik's rocks rose - from the sea! Anyone know why?

Lived in Corfu for many years and last time this happened is when there was a underwater earthquake---that time the sea around Sams boats receded around 10metres.

Yeah, surely the only time anything like that would happen is with an earthquake. That's how Tsunami's happen.

Sorry to disappoint jacks, no earthquakes, no tsunamis, no 'big beans'!! So what caused Rik's rocks to rise?

The last time it happened was about 10 or 12 years ago - and we didn't take any photos as we were sat watching the tide recede and hadn't got the camera with us. We had gone down to Roda to see friends and we all sat staring in amazement as the water disappeared - loads of fish stranded on the sands. We found out later that there had been an underwater earthquake centred around Crete and this had pulled the water inwards to the centre of the Med. Never seen anything like it before - or since. We only thought of tsunamis after the event - but on that occasion the water just gently ebbed back after about four hours.

No earthquakes to blame this time - it's just our good old friend the Moon. The Moon's distance from Roda varies by about 11% and low tides happen when it's advantage over the earth's pull is at its weakest. Within the month, it will all be back to normal.

Not bad for a land lubber! The position of the moon/sun/earth are the main contributers to this effect. Seismic/Geological disturbances will mirror the same effect. High/Low Pressure Air systems High/Low tide times and land/sea/air temeratures will alter the state(height) of the tide. Fish being stranded will not normally happen as a result of normal tidal pattern. When Dolphins/Whales are found stranded a full scale enquirey is normally instigated. This is not just to ensure the safety of the Dolphins but to check that a siesmic event has not gone un-noticed. Sorry, got carried away . Weather patterns/Moon Cycle were the cause of this abnormally low tide xxxxJohno

Please remove the suffix ''Novice'' after Roda in my ''box''. I think that the users of this site would prefer to be given just their name , Roda Friend, title and not how many Posts /imputs it takes us to become a .......... you tell me!! Being titled a 'Novice' at anything I do is , to , me , offensive. I am 57 years old , I hold a Masters Licence to carry passengers on a Merchant Ship but at the same time I love to be 26 again! We are all children on the web. Please let this site be about fun . We All love Roda........
