In the interests of improving customer services and maintaining profits, EasyJet is redistributing its flights to more profitable airports. Being one of the few airlines to make a profit this year, easyJet is keeping an eye on the opportunities created by the withdrawal of services by other airlines and is planning to expand by over 7% per annum in the medium term. As a first step, flight crew numbers are being cut at several sites and it is withdrawing completely from the UK’s East Midlands Airport. We reported recently that jet2.com is moving into East Midlands in a big way and there will almost certainly be significant changes in operations across Europe in the months to come. Keep an eye on press releases for details. Interestingly, one of the other more profitable airlines is the Greek carrier, Aegean, who switches its UK route from Stansted to Heathrow in October.

This story was a main feature on Watchdog this evening. The bosses of Easyjet are definately saying that Easyjet will cease operations from East Midland at the end of the season/year. However, they are still taking bookings for 2010 holidays from East Midlands. Apparently the bosses are saying its finished, but the booking agents are saying the opposite.
Of course the main panic now those who have booked for next year, are having problems getting a refund so they can book elsewhere. Easyjet are now saying if Easyjet does stop its East Midlands route, they will offer flights from alternative airports. On the show one family was told they would fly from Gatwick and another from Luton, adding another 100 miles and more money to their holidays.
The fascinating thing is this. Easyjet said that it was not making money from East Midlands, yet it has 9 flights a day, with 10 Routes each week, with thousands of passengers, probably millions. What do they want.
Watch the programme if you missed it, there is another First Choice story as well, scroll through to required story: WATCHDOG - EASYJET

Clearly, Chris, the statement about not making money is not the real reason, there will be something going on behind the scenes that has caused this decision. Whatever the reasons for such major changes, and some of them could be for the better, there will always be casualties. One can only hope that inconvenienced passengers are in some way compensated if their costs have risen as a result. Did easyJet fly from East Midlands to Corfu?

One airline that will be flying from East Midlands to Corfu next year was in the news again yesterday. Evidently jet2.com's chief executive, Philip Meeson is passionate about customer service and when he directly criticised staff in a spot check at Manchester Airport he was reported to the police for abusive behaviour. Mr Meeson, who was appluaded for his outburst by passengers who witnessed it, later apologised for causing any offence but said he was angry because the airline was not delivering the levels of customer service it strove to achieve.
Mr Meeson is well known for his commitment to improving services and several industry experts have come out in his defence, supporting his direct involvement at the 'coal face' and the sentiment expressed in his tirade.
Can we all now pin our hopes on jet2.com? Let's see what next year brings.

Easyjet does at the moment fly out of East Midlands to Corfu, amongst other destinations. So yet another route to Corfu removed. Jet2 does fly out of East Midlands also, I wonder if they will take the route. I think what baffled most was the fact that the head of Easyjet was saying we will not be flying out of East Midlands in 2010, yet Easyjet Bookings were still taking bookings for 2010 and denying knowledge of his issue.

Thanks, Cuthbert, that's what I thought. I believe that it is only Gatwick, Manchester & Bristol.

Thank you for the abrupt correction Cuthbert, ;D. My apologies to all for mixing up my airlines and airports. In addition to Gatwick, and since the beginning of this season, Easyjet also fly to Corfu out of Manchester and Bristol.
