Most Roda regulars will know Evelyn & Roy who have been coming here for 30-odd years. Evelyn gave us this photo when she was here two weeks ago, taken, she thinks, around 1986 when she was a young girl of 58! It shows the Pink Panther Disco, but she can't remember where that was. We think we know, can anyone confirm it?

The Pink Panther was at the crossroads, next to where the opticians is now. The road on the right hand side is the one to Sfakera. I think the old Pink Panther building is still there but things have been built around it.

Thanks bish
That's where we were told also - it's not quite the same today. We will go up there soon and see if the old building is still there.

Yeah, that's where it was. And I know that some of the building was there until recently. Dunno bout now, either.
I remember there was a nightclub, where the Tavern is now, too. The first year I was there. But we used to go to Skouna!
3 nightclubs all at the one time.....Who'd have thought, eh? lol

We think we know what the building now is - & it's quite a story.
We hope to have time tomorrow to tell you.

Thanks Anita - that's exactly what we thought. The shop opened this week and is definitely Roda's most stylish clothes outlet - we went in yesterday and we were very impressed. The shop was the brainchild of Vassilis who, as Anita says, owned the AST general store in Acharavi. One year ago this week, while in Athens looking at things for his new shop, Vassilis suffered a fatal heart attack. His wife Eleni, sister of Alekos at Smiley's Bar, took up the challenge and, under great pressure, has had the shop finished. It opened this week, exactly one year to the day that Vassilis died. We always found Vassilis to be real gentleman who always found time to talk and offer good advice to us about all manner of things Greek. The new shop is actually called 'X-Pose' and the addition of 'O Lagos' is in honour of Vassilis - it was his nickname, which in Greek means 'the hare'. We wish Eleni and her family the greatest success in the future. Next time you are in Roda - call in see what a lovely shop it is. Here are two photos taken yesterday:

Oh, what a shame. But it's nice that they went on & finished it, in his memory. And even better to open it on his anniversary.
Need to have a wee look, next time I'm in the vicinity! lol

Good Luck to Eleni, I hope she is successful in her new venture. Pity the shop has just opened after our return to England, as me being an avid retail therapy fan (and I'm sure most of us girls are) could have probaly had a good old spending spree in here. The shop looks wonderful and it will certainly be one of my first port of calls when I return. Not sure Rob will be shopping with me, all the better I say, I could send him to the beach or bar then spend until my hearts content and pretend they were in the SALE!!! Just the normal thing us girl's say don't you agree? oh!! and hide the bags.

Hi Kath - if you need to know how to sneak bags out of the country under Rob's nose, then ask Pipitsa - she did it with a boot load of carpets! ;D

I arrived in Roda long after the Pink Panther was gone, but the memory of it has persisted so even I knew about it. The place obviously has been held with deep affection by many people who danced the night away there. It's lovely to hear stories from the old Roda.
