We finally made it in to the village last night for something to eat and we went to the new pizza/pasta restaurant "Estrella" in the new block along the beach roda.
We were on our way there on 16 May when we had to turn around at the door because of a pressing family matter.
Anyway, a month later and we made it in to the restaurant this time!
We were just sitting down when the party of four opposite started waxing lyrical amongst themselves about how good their meal had been and they told Lena, the owner, that the pizzas were the best they'd ever had!
We decided to have a starter as Stacy (Pirates) had told us how delicious they were. We had the two varieties of potato skins (although actually we went for potato pieces). These were wonderful, flavoursome and filling - in fact with hindsight one between the two of us and we might still have struggled!
While we were ejoying the delights of the starters, the table opposite received their bill and actually checked with Lena to see if the amount was correct as they didn't think that it was enough!
They had gone before we'd finshed our starters, as we ate slowly not only to enjoy but also so that we had some room for the main course.
On this occasion, we both went for pasta dishes for our main course. Two different pastas and sauces and just like the starters, they were absolutely delicious.
The portions size beat us both and we had to actually convince Lena that we simply couldn't eat it all rather than not liking them, so we came away, after paying an extremely reasonable bill, with doggie bags.
One things for sure though, our Petra will not be eating the left overs!
We will be back at Estrella at some point but certainly one to aim for during your stay in Roda!
Julie

That's exactly where 'Estrella' is - opposite Splendor & the photographic shop. We realised, for the first time, that the 'Splendor' bar is not open this year.

I arrived in Roda on 14 May for my annual week with daughter Julie, and Steve...and got back home last Thursday 11 June!!!
Why, is a long story, but briefly I was on the way to Estrella with Julie and Steve on 16 May when the pressing family matter which Julie mentioned intervened...my wife, who had gone to Spain for a week's holiday with her sister, had been taken ill, and required immediate surgery - I needed to be there. So we all turned back and spend the rest of the evening in negotiation with the insurance company over medical cover - somewhat stressful - and arranging flights for me to get to Spain asap. EasyJet proved pretty helpful and organised flights for me to return to Gatwick the next morning, and from there to Malaga later that day - I joined my wife in Intensive Care around 10:30pm!
June's surgeon wouldn't let her fly home until 11 June, and I'm happy to say that she has now made a full recovery.
We both want to say a special thank you to Julie and Steve for their help and support throughout, but particularly on that Saturday evening when things got pretty stressful. And I know from Julie and Steve that many people in Roda...those that do and those that don't know us, have been expressing concern, and their good wishes. Thank you to all.
It's sad of course that my special time with Julie was curtailed so unexpectedly...but we'll make it up in due course, and I look forward to seeing everyone I missed this time when I'm next in Roda...can't wait.
Don

Hello Don, Of course I heard the story as well, but I didn´t realise she had to stay in Spain for such a long time. Hope she´s ok now. Well...if you want to have your revanche tennisgame, you have to return to Roda before 25th of july, because thats the day Danny will be returning home (but think it 's far too hot to play tennis anyway). Or maybe you can set a date for a game next summer . Greetings from Petra and Danny to June as well!

I can only echo Julie & Steve's write up , we had 2 starters - the nicest garlic bread i have ever had and a portion of skins - that was enough in itself - followed by a wagon wheel size pizza between us, washed down with 2 cokes - total bill = 14.5 euros. Will be back there again in september. pete.

Now well into it's second season, if you have been to Roda and not been to Estrella you really have missed out, if you've yet to visit our favourite village make sure you put this place on your "do to list". This year it was even better than last year, with the cheesey garlic bread out of this world, i swear the portions have got even bigger. Here are a couple of photos... pete.

I must agree with everything said about Estrellas, its a wonderful place. Food is fantasstic and the staff couldnt be more friendly and nice, my youngest son had a clumsy episode in there on our first visit this year and they were so sweet. We rarely eat our evening meal in the same place twice during our visits as there so many wonderful places to eat but all three of us were determined to do so this year. My eldest lad said he had the best steak ever in there and he is somewhat of an expert on steak lol. Cant wait to visit again next year and eat more of the cheesy creamy potatoes ,mmmmm x
