I have only ever been badly burnt once (my skin blistered) when I was 16 years old and vowed that I would never go out without wearing suntan lotion again!!
Although I did get burnt again 3 years ago when I was travelling on the ferry from Corfu to Athens, I had applied sun cream but forgot to reapply it again later or to move out of the sun, I had horrific tan lines for about a year. Another lesson painfully learned but one I will not be forgetting in a hurry!! lol

I had heat stroke on a cloudy day in Roda about 12 years ago. It was before I had children but we had Mikes kids with us (not kids anymore). I ended up fainting in the road outside Newport and had Captain Vangelis fussing over me. I'm now so careful I always use the kids suncream as it's stronger. Nikki

Oh dear! lol
I too got caught out by a cold, cloudy day on the beach - burnt my legs. But it wasn't that bad, so my holiday wasn't spoiled.

Can definitely recommend Asda sun cream, our 13yr old daughter is definitely the rose type and has had a few minor mishaps with the Greek sun over the yrs, she used F50 for most of our very hot time this year, including hours in and out of the water at our pool and Hydro-polis water park with no burning or tenderness whatsoever. TOP TIP 1. Sun cream is very expensive in Roda (20 euros) buy before you go.
TOP TIP 2. Greek yogurt is a brilliant cure for sunburn, buy a pot on your 1st shop for milk etc, if you don't burn just eat it!!
When my husband burnt his eye lids and face 23yrs ago, and resembled the elephant man on day 1 of our holiday, had put oil on, and rather than wipe his hands on a towel just rubbed his face! Men....... Anyway, the lady in our local shop gave us a pot, and we were most skeptical it truly works and have been glad of it many times because there's always a bit that you miss, ears, toes and when you sit down...... oouch!!!

TOP TIP 1. Sun cream is very expensive in Roda (20 euros) buy before you go. Just to add - not all sun lotions are 20 euros! I was looking at Piz Buin and Caroten (which is what I have to use these days) and they were both under 10 euros for a 200ml bottle. Julie

Some time ago we promised to publish again the UV Index ratings so that you can be in no doubt. These are taken from Wikipedia.
Recommendations for protection when the day's predicted UV index is at various values are:
UV Index Description Media Graphic Color Recommended Protection
0–2 No danger to the average person Green. Wear sunglasses on bright days; use sunscreen if there is snow on the ground, which reflects UV radiation, or if you have particularly fair skin.
[glow=red,2,300]3–5[/glow] Little risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure Yellow. Wear sunglasses and use sunscreen, cover the body with clothing and a hat, and seek shade around midday when the sun is most intense.
6–7 High risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure Orange. Wear sunglasses and use sunscreen having SPF 15 or higher, cover the body with sun protective clothing and a wide-brim hat, and reduce time in the sun from two hours before to three hours after solar noon (roughly 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM during summer in zones that observe daylight saving time).
8–10 Very high risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure Red. Wear sunscreen, a shirt, sunglasses, and a hat. Do not stay out in the sun for too long.
11+ Extreme risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure Violet. Take all precautions, including: wear sunglasses and use sunscreen, cover the body with a long-sleeve shirt and trousers, wear a very broad hat, and avoid the sun from two hours before to three hours after solar noon.
The UV index in Roda today is [glow=red,2,300]8 [/glow]- and there is a wind blowing that will dry your skin. Please take care.
