Last year we published a UV guide to help prevent people from getting burnt while on holiday in Roda. If you found this useful, then let us know and we'll do it again.
As most people will know, the weather in May this year has been exceptionally hot and the daily UV factor has been in the region of 6-7 (classified as high) which means there is a high risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure and protection against sunburn is needed.
Under these conditions, you should apply a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your eyes and your eyelids. Reduce your time in the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Don't forget: cover up, wear a hat, use good sunglasses, and apply a sunscreen.

This sounds very useful, I am olive skinned so don't tend to burn very often but this year I am travelling with a few friends of which one is typical English Rose complexion and hasn't been abroad since she was 5 so this would be very useful to know any information that you can provide on this subject.

Btw, can I just say that Asda's suntan lotion came out top in Which magazines review of suntan lotions. I had already bought 2 bottles of Factor 15 for a fiver about a month ago.
Just wanted to share this tip with you all.

Well, I hadn't realised either, Rach. I just bought it, cos it was on offer.
Then a girl I work with, showed me the Which magazine review & there it was, as the best out the lot!

It's always a fantastic bonus when something that is good value for money is also a good product I have already told the girls to get down to Asda to purchase their suncream as well

We used to buy 'No-Ad' suntan lotion from Asda, but they stopped it - shame, it was good.

We haven't seen the 'Which' report, can somebody tell us why Asda's suncream is the best?

Steve, I've got the magazine in work, I'll give you details 2moro! I know that it gives you better coverage in the sun, than the others. Some of the ones that were saying F15 were only giving you F8 or 9. I think Asda was giving you something like F23 & F15 when in swimming - which is great, when you think of the ones only giving you F8 or 9. With that & the price, I think that was why. But I'll give you proper figures etc 2moro AND I'll post the top 5 & the bottom 5 for you. No-Ad was the best. We're using the remenants of a bottle from 2 years ago, here atm. It's almost done, then that's it. I wonder what happened to them, that they discontinued it.

I can't stress the importance of applying sun lotion enough, last year we were in crete in july and then roda in october. My son was with us in crete and you would think that despite being aged 19 and nagged my mum(me) that he would have been applying sun cream regularly in 35 degree heat but oh no he knew best as a result of his better knowledge he ended up at the doctors for 4 days having creams and bandages re-applied as his shoulders were covered in huge blisters he had 3rd degree burns. So people be vigilant.
Gail.

My other half seems to think he's immune to getting burnt. Stupid eejit fell asleep in the sun last weekend & ended up like a lobster. While I had suntan lotion on, didn't fall asleep in the sun & I'm a lovely brown colour. Definitely not worth going without. Take it your son won't be doing that again in a hurry, Gail?
