Hello, first post to you after joining this am, then booking to come to Roda, may22. We were there 8yrs ago and don't recall the airport transfer being hellish, just the way it is, now i read that it's definitely worth a taxi/car hire. Don't mean to be tight but I'm sure every euro is going to count this year, so is it that bad? Also, the kids were 3 and 5 and I'm sure I'd remember if it was fraught, mind you they are 11 & 13 so perhaps they were just more obedient then!! Have really enjoyed reading through the forum and can't wait to get away, hope you won't mind if i pick all your brains a bit more before we arrive? thank you, mari

Hi Mari - welcome to the forum, and congratulations on being our 200th member. Unfortunately we don't offer a million pounds for such an achievement but you are assured of a warm welcome and plenty of conversation! In answer to your question about the transfers, it all depends! The transfer times can vary depending on the number of people arriving and the time of the year. In many cases, outside of July & August, the coaches can take quite a circuitous route which can mean up to (and beyond sometimes) 2 hours on the coach. Many people prefer to pay the price of a taxi and be sure of getting to Roda quickly and without the wait at the airport for the coaches to fill. I know that many of the forum users will never go back to using a transfer coach after the efficiency of using a taxi from Roda. As you may have realised, Roda Taxis are charging 44 euros one way & Alfa are charging 45 for the same trip. Delighted that the forum has been of interest to you and yes, please pick our brains - it's why we are here! ;D Julie

Hi Mari, i think you are making the right choice, as has been mentioned on the forum before , it is better to use one of the village taxis rather than one at the airport - they are cheaper and more importantly they will know where your accomodation is. A couple of years ago friends of mine used an airport one and we ended up having to give them directions over the mobile phone. You can book them on line with nothing to pay untill you arrive in Roda. Hope this helps. pete.

Hi Mari
The transfer isn't THAT bad - I just like to get to the resort quicker! lol
We had a nightmare transfer 3 years ago - but that's only 1 out of 14 transfers that I've done. So the following year we decided to get a taxi & will do that again this year. But I wouldn't NEVER do the coach again.
So do what's best for yourself....and cheaper for you too (having kids on holiday isn't the cheapest of things, so you'd probably be better saving the Euros for that!)
Enjoy your holiday! And be sure to let us know how the the holiday AND the transfer went!
Jackie x

Hi, both options have their advantages - you could of course get a taxi up to Roda and then make use of the transfer bus back to the airport - thus only having one taxi fare to stump up. For the first time in 12 years we are on a 'package' holiday and are going to do just that (get a taxi to Roda - making the rep aware that we are getting a taxi to the resort but do want to use the bus for the return to the airport).
We did the transfer twice many years ago and have since used taxi - but we no longer have young children in tow that constantly make demands on your hard-saved holiday money!!
Regards, Kath.

Hi everyone, we've opted by a majority decision (6 of us) to use the shuttle bus, £10.50 each return. May take a bit longer to get to Roda but never mind

Thanks to all, i think arrive 'in style' and cattle class back is a good compromise all round, but shall see. Would it be a good idea to book taxi now or a bit nearer the time, although it's only 2/52 away? mari x

We have booked ours in advance on-line with no problems and at least you are guaranteed to be picked up. Also if you use Roda Taxis or Alfa it will be loads cheaper than just using one of the airport taxis.
Regards, Kath.

Mari, book it NOW. I'm gonna book mine soon - I don't go till 31st August.
The service is great - I booked online 2 years ago & they got back to me, in a matter of days, with an email.

I have a feeling it was Alpha...not 100% sure. It feels like it was soooo long ago, now! lol
As far as I'm aware they're both reliable and with the price being so similar, just go for either, or! lol

Hi Mari - both taxi companies are reliable and we work with them to keep up the high standards. The differences are that Roda Taxis are 1 euro cheaper, they are based in the village and they only serve Roda. Alfa serves the whole of the north of the Island.
