Hi, Never having visited Greece before we are looking for somewhere suitable and someone has suggested Roda. We are both 60 and looking for a good quality/nice hotel, with easy access to the beach. It has to be a non hilly area as I have some mobility problems, but still like to have a little stroll after our evening meal with access to a tavern or two, and finally absolutely no Clubs or noisy pubs near by. Can we find this in Roda or are we asking to much?

Roda is TOTALLY flat. One of the great things about it. A lot of people with mobility problems go year after year. You frequently see people in wheelchairs (Usually Julie, being pushed around by Steve!) and lots of people with walking sticks, crutches etc.
You'll definitely find the odd taverna or 3, all within walking distance. And I've never been bothered with noise from pubs/clubs, no matter what apartments I've stayed in.
On the subject of a hotel, I'll leave that up to someone else, cos I usually go self-catering.
Anyway, good luck on making your decision & hopefully we'll be hearing all about your trip to Roda, on here soon. And I'm sure you'll love it as much as the rest of us do.

Thanks Jackie, that was helpful. Is self catering a viable option then? Haven`t really considered that before, usually use hotels as I hate the Spanish `All English Breakfast` type menus

Hi Silversands - Welcome to the forum!
I am Julie, who is pushed around by Steve, in the nicest possible way of course!
We chose the village of Roda because of how accessible it was, as well as retaining original Greek charm and hospitality.
You will find that Roda is perfect for your needs, as Jackie has already said. You would want to be centrally located however, so that you are not subject to too much of a walk back to your accommodation.
Self-catering is very popular in Greece and Roda is no exception. There are accommodations offering different levels of facilities, naturally.
Would you want to come with a package or travel independently and book your own accommodation. Both are easy. If you do decide to come independently, then all the links are easily put together, right from touch down on the island.
Let me know more about how you would like to travel and I can point in the right direction for suitable accommodation.
I look forward to hearing from you
Julie

There could be a silver lining, jacks - while I'm pushing the wheelchair, I can't put my hands in my pockets! Steve

Hi silversands We too first found Roda 21 years ago and have been back almost every year since.....always self-catering. My family also adore Roda. We are now both 60+ and Keith has a mobility problem but always manages to get around as there are lots of nice little bars/tavernas to stop for a rest 'etc' I still think I'm 20......but thats another story The people are second to none, and will go out of their way to make your stay a happy one, and I'm sure, like many, many others you will return.

Thanks to everyone for their helpful replies. I would like to take up Julie`s offer to point us in the right direction for accommodation. I did see a place called Mitsis Roda Beach Resort - is this far outside of Roda? We tend to use a `package` as I`m nervous of arriving at an airport without pre aranged transfers as I can`t wander about with cases in tow. What we are looking for is a Hotel or perhaps Apt. with nice pool area, near beach; restaurants/tavern where we can just lie with a good book and glass of Vino in the sun - heaven! What`s the usual temp. in September, any chance of rain? On two separate visits last year to Lanzarote we had practically a full week of rain which was really disappointing as we normally have fantastic weather, so we are hoping for sunshine in Corfu.

Hi Silversands,
The hotel complex that you mentioned is all inclusive, and a few hundred yards from the village. I think that there are more suitable venues nearer the village centre, but suggest that you look at the accommodation shown on the Roda online website for details. Piptsas seems tom be highly recommended for self catering, but no pool, although there are others with this facility nearby. As for the weather in Sept, I came last year on the last day of the month, and the weather was a bit unsettled , I would recommend the middle of the month to be a bit safer. I am trying the 18th this year for my second trip to my favourite place.
Good luck. Bigjohn.

Hi again Silversands.
As Bigjohn said......Mitsis Roda Beach is All Inclusive, and although it is on the beach, it is quite a walk into the village if you have limited mobility.
Last year we met a couple who were staying there, and although they said it was very nice, they would not stay there again but would book into the village this year, as there are so many places to stay and so many places to eat etc. they felt they had missed out on a lot of the magic of Roda.
We only met them on the flight in to Corfu, but they came into the village to meet us some part of every day and realised why we keep coming back and they also fell in love with it.
Again as Bigjohn said.....have a look at accommodation on Roda Online and see if anything takes your fancy.
We have stayed at numerous places in Roda over the last 21 years....all self-catering, but if you prefer hotels there are a few to choose from.
Jean

Hi Silversands Sorry not to get back to you yesterday. There is not much more I need to say about the Mitsis Roda Beach Hotel that has not already been said by jean & bigjohn. I definitely would not recommend this for anyone who has mobility problems. Even if you were to stay on the complex (as it is all-inclusive) the site is on a headland and not at all level. It would be a struggle to get into the village for you. If you would like a package then I would recommend more central locations. These would be Makis (with Libra), Theodores & Fionas Apartments (with Olympic) and Afroditi, right on the seafront (Thomas Cook). All of these are lovely and have good settings and pools. The Afroditi is a hotel and offers bed & breakfast. Theodores & Makis are self catering but this year Theodores is offering breakfast as an additon. These are all in the village An alternative would also be the Coral Hotel, a little further out but very nice and they have just completed a 2 yr upgrade. It is right on the sea-front again but at the opposite end of the village from the Afroditi. I would recommend trying independent. The Roda Taxis are extremely reliable and many people now, even on a package, opt to use a taxi transfer as it is quicker and gets them to Roda sooner for them to start their holiday. Recommended independent accommodation would be Alexandros with a pool, Nikos Apts, Aspioti Apts, Eleni Apts and Christofis. The latter do not have pools but you can use any pool in the area, free of charge as long as you buy any food & drink there rather than take your own. In case you come across the other accommodations in brochure and on Roda Online, I will list which ones are outside of the village centre: - Kosmas, Melinda, Metallinos, Oasis, Ninos on the Beach, Roda Garden Village, Eftichia (this is where we live and is just along from the Coral), Pegasus, Spiros Number 1, Blue gardens. This is for no other reason than distance from the centre for you. We had a lovely stroll around the village today, stopping for coffee and enjoying the views and the people. Roda is very contained and has an intimate feel, that very quickly takes you in. Within a short space of time, people will be recognising you and greeting you like old friends! Please come back and ask me more questions. I am sorry that it has taken me over 24 hours to get back, it's been a bit hectic with the new magazine going online this weekend and irritating computer problems. Julie
