Originally planned for 2008, it looks as though the village will have its own dedicated internet centre this year. Many places have the odd terminal or two, but this time there will be six terminals at one place in the centre of the village. The location will be in the old jeweller's shop opposite Pangalos Taverna.

As far as we know at this time Petra, both Smiley's and Mistral have wireless internet. What the range is, I really don't know. I guess the new centre will have it also.

For an alternative for using the laptop, have you thought of purchasing a USB stick from a Mobile Telephone Company. Stick into the USB Portal and away you go. Prices depending on how long you wish to rent. Such operators as T Mobile are selling them, with a free laptop.

Some good deals in the UK at the moment, but be sure you understand the charges for using the device from Greece. I don't know what sort of extra costs there are.

I don't think a beach is a good place to be taking a laptop.
Maybe that's just me....

My son has both ( he works very hard as a newspaperboy ), he takes his ipod touch to the beach and will leave his laptop in the appartment. at least I think he will.... He might be coming over to Roda for his internship for a period of 11 weeks (!!!) so he will be bringing a lot, not sure if it will fit into his suitcase.......

Prices depending on how long you wish to rent. Such operators as T Mobile are selling them, with a free laptop. Yeiamas, Chris Hi Chris - we have actually looked into "Pay as you Go (PAYG)" mobile broadband to replace our BT line. The cost of keeping on the BT line when we are not in the UK makes swapping over and doing away with the BT landline a financially feasible option. Of course, on PAYG mobile broadband, usage outside of the UK is payable at a higher rate, so we would only be using it while we were in the UK. I think, however, that mobile broadband on contract is available at not extra cost in Europe. Be aware though that UK networks when used in Roda and long the coast to Kassiopi frequently pick up the Albanian signal - this would probably not be counted as Europe, so worth checking on what charges might be involved for Albanian networks. In Greece, the concept of mobile broadband has been here for over a year now, that we know about. OTE (the Greek telecoms service) offer a mobile broadband under "COSMOTE" - their mobile division. Not sure of the current charge but it was 15 euros a month. J

I have had a good look into it, and I think it is a feasible option when abroad, or as in your case Steve and alternative at home. As long as you can get a good mobile signal then there is no problem. We tried it in France last year with our laptop, and it worked perfectly, in fact it worked better than the mobile telephone did. We used the T Mobile network, which also kept the price down.
I agree there is the matter of picking up an Albanian signals which may alter the price, but if they are available in Corfu, then it is probably better to purchase there, for the duration of ones stay.
Certainly give it a go again. I think your idea Steve is a good one. Maybe worth taking out a contract and using your laptap in both locations.
