Yesterday Sfakera lost at home to Peroulades 1-2; report to follow.........
On 11th february a crowd in excess of 100 gathered to watch 4th placed Sfakera play 3rd placed Peroulades at a sunny but chilly Nymphes. Kick off was 3:30 so there was just 20% of the pitch in sun by that time. A minutes silence and delayed ko at 3:35. Sfakera in my opinion were short of 2 or 3 players from their best side.
First chance fell to Sfakera on 3 minutes but the shot was deflected high and wide for a corner that was easily cleared. The visitors then applied pressure for the next 5 minutes without getting any chances; just one shot wide from a very tight angle out right. In the 9th a lob from Sfakera into box from the wing only just went over the bar. Again the visitors attack; a deep free kick into box was cleared but the referee blew for a free kick to Sfakera; then from a corner the Sfakera goalkeeper punched clear. A good half chance fell to Sfakera in the 16th when the ball was played into the box and the centre forward looked favourite to get to it; he seemed to play for penalty and the ball was cleared for a corner. That was part cleared and Sfakera won a free kick just outside the right corner of the box but that was shot wide. In the 23rd the ball was played into the box from midfield and the Sfakera winger got in a cross shot that beat the keeper to give Sfakera the lead. 1-0. The visitors responded with a shot, saved and shortly after Jon Banos made two very good interceptions to foil chances. In the 28th some good midfield play by Sfakera again got the winger through into box; a clash with the defender that looked like a penalty but was in fact a free kick to the defence; the defender injured in the fall had to be substituted. In the 31st a long free kick into the box was headed out for a corner to Sfakera; easily cleared. The visitors were again in the ascendancy and in the 37th a long ball into the Sfakera box was blocked by the goalkeeper who was alert enough to also block the follow up shot which was cleared out for a throw in. A minute later and it was 1-1 when a free kick from the visitors out wide on the left was flicked on by a header at the front of goal area and went in at the far post. Half Time 1-1.
The second half began in joke style when a visiting player not only fouled the Sfakera full back but belly flopped him…..looked like watching WWE! SFakera had a free kick out wide in the 50th that was deflected just wide for a corner. Cleared for a throw. In this half the referee had a thing about throws; he must have called for a least a dozen foul throws by both sides. Fouls were increasing too but the referee seemed reluctant to use yellow card; even when a visitor fouled so 30 metres from goal and then kicked the ball 50 metres away no action was taken. The free kick was deflected for a corner. Played deep the header at the back was blocked and cleared. In the 61st Sfakera made 2 substitutions; the next minute a yellow card; to a Sfakera player. In the 65th Sfakera attacked; a shot was deflected (but was it a handball?) ; the loose ball was chased by an attacker and the goalkeeper who clashed; a free kick was given to the goalkeeper. Sfaker then made nother substitution. The visitors then send a free kick into the box which was caught by the goalkeeper. The visitors nearly took the lead in the 71st when a break into box lead to a shot that the keeper saved with his legs; the ball staying between them for him to gather. The visitors next goal soon came; in the 74th a deep free kick into box; the goalkeeper came out to punch; crashed into the centre half and the the ball went off the centre half’s head into the goal. 1-2 to Peroulades. A few substitutions were made by the visitors who looked to close out the game. There was some poor time wasting when players feign injury; a shoulder charge by Sfakera centre half, the player rolled around holding face….shameful. They watch too much TV football. No real chnces either was as time was running out; one header by Sfakera was gathered by the keeper but was going wide anyway. Into added time and again a visiting player went down under challenge like a dying swan! Sfakera won a corner in the 4th minute of added time so the goalkeeper went up to join the attack. The ball parltly cleared fell to Sfakera but the shot was over the bar and the chance to get a deserved draw was lost.
Full time 1-2 to Peroulades.
