Good morning from Roda. It is another lovely sunny morning here with a gentle breeze and a calm blue sea. There was a bit of a frost or maybe heavy dew first thing as the temperature at dawn was quite a bit above freezing. There is a bit of a haze looking across the channel towards Albania with its snow-capped peaks. I can hear the sea gentle coming ashore. Breakfast was again on the balcony toasting in the sun. brilliant for the middle of January. Yesterday stayed lovely all day with the merest of breezes and a very calm sea. Roda even saw a couple of swimmers in the early afternoon. Though I think one of the dips was to celebrate a 60th birthday! There was a beautiful cloudless sunset, which someone on Facebook described as ‘rainbow’. It is a perfect description of the shading from red on the horizon through to deep blue of the night sky. Only green is missing to complete the effect. The moon stayed in its bed so the stars reigned supreme in the night sky, there were so many. A slight breeze had sprung up which built up the waves into something slightly bigger than a ripple. It was a cool 7°C at 11pm
The temperature at 10.00am on Thursday 16th. January was 8.3°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 14.2°C, and the minimum was 4.7°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 11.0°C and the minimum 0.6°C. A clear sunny day with lovely views of the snows on the mainland. Gathered enough clouds for a great sunset.

Good morning from Roda. The lovely weather is continuing. We have clear cloudless blue skies a gentle breeze and blue seas. The sea looks calm into the channel, but waves are now building in shore and breaking on the beaches. There is still a bit of a haze, added to here in Corfu by the wood smoke. The atmospheric conditions seem to keep it close to the land where it piles up in the valleys in drifts. Lovely and hot in the sun for our breakfast on the balcony, though very cold in the shade. There was an early morning frost that went as soon as the sun touched it.
Yesterday was clear and sunny all day, not a trace of a cloud, again warm, even hot in the sun Baltic in the shade. The cafes and bars that are on the sunny side of the street have their fronts open, those on the opposite side are all closed in with heaters for the customers. Day drifted into night with that ‘rainbow’ sunset that is so stunning with the foreground of buildings and trees silhouetted against the lower orange band. A no-show moon again but a sky full of stars and a bay full of lights, though the haze was hampering those on the mainland. It was a chilly 8°C by the end of the evening.
The temperature at 10.00am on Friday 17th. January was 6.9°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 14.6°C, and the minimum was 4.4°C.

Good morning from Roda. The lovely weather is still continuing, though we have more cloud around. It is however, thoughtfully keeping to the edges and away from the sun. There was another frost, but that soon went as the sun reached it. So, we enjoyed breakfast on the balcony toasting in the hot sunshine. OK, our feet might have been freezing as they were in the shade, but you can’t have everything. There is a general haze which means that the mainland is a bit out of focus this morning, and yes, I did have my glasses on, as we watched the Minoan ferry, running late, bound for Igoumenitsa glide along the channel. The sea is a lovely shade of blue and calm looking, but I can hear gentle waves coming ashore.
Yesterday stayed beautiful all day, again warm in the sun but cold in the shade. There was a slight chill to the air though when walking about. However, I wasn’t wearing a coat, just a thick cardigan, and it is the middle of January. We saw a gathering of very light wispy clouds to the north over the mainland by the end of the afternoon, but otherwise the skies had remained clear all day. We had the by now standard monochrome sunset leading onto a dark and starlit night. The waves had settled into a very long low pattern gently coming ashore. There was a slight breeze in the evening which added to the chill as we walked back from the village. It was a chilly 7°C by the end of the evening.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Saturday 18th. January was 7.8°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 14.2°C, and the minimum was 3.9°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 12.9°C and the minimum 6.8°C. A damp wet day drizzle and a heavy mist leading to heavy rain showers with thunder and lightning later on before partially clearing.

Good morning from Roda. We have had a bit of a blip in the weather. We had rain overnight though I don’t believe it was much. I had left my peg bag out on the balcony and it wasn’t even damp though the rails were wet. It was quite a cloudy start to the day with no frost but the clouds are breaking up a little to give some periods of sunshine, some of them quite brief. There is quite a lot of haze around with the mainland being fairly indistinct, and there is no wind to shift it. The sea is mirror calm with just the merest of whispers as the waves hit the shore.
Yesterday saw the day have a promising start with clouds but lots of sunshine soon gave way to give us an afternoon of mostly clouds with little in the way of periods of sunshine. The wind stayed gentle which was a good thing as it felt cool enough without adding a wind chill factor into the equation. The sea was so calm that there was barely a ripple on it. It is very rare that I look out of my windows or walk along the beach road without seeing a little fishing boat out in the bay, or something much larger making its way down the channel. I think the sunset was hidden behind the clouds with only a slight peachy tinge to indicate the event. The evening saw some larger breaks in the clouds which allowed one or two stars to be seen. It was a cool 8°C by the end of the evening. The temperature at 10.00 am on Sunday 19th. January was 9.9°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 13.5°C, and the minimum was 4.4°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 13.6°C and the minimum 9.0°C. Cloudy over Cofru but sunny over the mainland, windy the heavy rain by late afternoon.

Good morning from Roda. It was quite a bright start to the morning with good spells of sunshine, however, since I put my washing in the machine there has been an accumulation of lots of thin streaky cloud that mask the sun. We were still able to have breakfast on the balcony just wearing a dressing gown, but we did have a steaming bowl of porridge! Anyway, the sea is calm and the breeze is gentle. There is a slight haze trying to disguise the mainland.
I saw some interesting facts today on the internet. The highest temperature recorded in Greece in 2019 was 41.9°C in Larissa over 10 days in July and August. The lowest temperature -22.5°C in Phlorina. The highest ever temperature ever recorded in Greece was 48°C! According to statistics a wet day here is to get 1mm of rain and there is a 33% chance every day in January for that amount. However, apart from two days when we had short periods of rain only lasting a few hours, we have seen no rain now in a month.
Yesterday stayed dry after the overnight rain. It must have been more in the village than here as there was quite a bit in the usual puddles. It was a day of clouds and good long periods of sunshine especially in the afternoon. The amount of clouds around gave us a lovely 360-degree sunset with pink clouds almost all the way around the skies. The pinkest ones were the ones that had come down the mountain stops behind us to the south. There hadn’t been much of a breeze all day and the sea remained quite calm. The haze that was masking the mainland drifted away in the evening taking with it most of the clouds giving us a dark and starlit night with plenty of lights joining in around the bay. It was a cool 9°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 10.00am on Monday 20th. January was 8.9°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 13.3°C, and the minimum was 5.6°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 14.3°C and the minimum 10.4°C.A day of sunshine and dark brooding clouds which eventually gave way to more pleasant ones and a great sunset. Good morning from Roda. The weather for the last few days has been quite stable, in that there has been little in the way of a wind, the sea has remained practically flat calm and there has been a lot of sunshine, but also a fair bit of cloud. Despite the low temperatures it is lovely in the sun and breakfast once more was on the balcony but it was cold in the shadows. There is more haze today trying to hide the mainland and our hills. I saw my first wild irises of the season yesterday by the main road from Acharavi to Kassiopi, so pretty.
Yesterday was a day of sunshine and clouds. Sometimes we saw more of one than the other, then the tables would turn. You almost have to be ready for two seasons when you go out and about. T-shirt for the sunny times, especially if sheltered and thick woollen coat for the other times. OK, I am exaggerating a bit about the t-shirt, but a cardigan is enough. The clouds seemed to win the battle towards sunset, which I missed, but they cleared in the evening to give a starlit night, but chilly, with the temperature at 11 pm only 8°C.
The temperature at 10.00am on Tuesday 21st. January was 8.2°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 13.7°C, and the minimum was 5.9°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 14.2°C and the minimum 4.1°C. The day started clear and sunny before becoming cloudy with drizzle by the evening.

Good morning from Roda. We started the day with a heavy frost which lingered where the sun didn’t get to it. We have mostly clear blue skies with some thin streaky clouds around, a gentle breeze and a flat calm sea. It is quite hazy around us due very much to the smoke from all the fires, but it is much less hazy looking towards the mainland where Albania is almost clear to see. Again, pleasantly warm in the sun and freezing in the shade. We enjoyed breakfast and a read on the balcony, feeling warm as the UV has gone up to 3 today. It is no wonder that colds are rife here what with the extremes of temperatures experienced every day (20°C+ in the sun down to single figures in the shade and at night), together with the very high humidity, it was 90% first thing, all act together to give a very good set of conditions for the cold virus to thrive.
Yesterday started off well but got increasingly cloudy with less and less sunny spells. Again, I missed the sunset, but the tail end looked like it had been a monochromatic one as the sky had mostly cleared of the clouds. The night was clear with lots of stars and some of the lights from the larger mainland villages joined in. It was cold with not much wind and the sea is still very calm with barely a ripple on Roda beach. It was a chilly 7°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 10.00am on Wednesday 22nd. January was 6.0°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 13.3°C, and the minimum was 5.5°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 12.8°C and the minimum 9.6°C. The day of rain and thunder and lightning storm.

Good afternoon from Roda. This settled weather is continuing. We had quite a frost this morning which disappeared a son as the sun hit it. We had blue cloudless skies a ruffled sea with noisy waves and a fresh breeze. Again, it was cold in the shade but we enjoyed breakfast basking in the sun. We might only have another day of this as we are due some showers over the weekend.
Yesterday stayed lovely all day, nothing to complain about. Clear skies, calm sea and a gentle breeze. The haze stayed with us all day but seemed to ease a bit in the evening. We enjoyed the usual monochrome sunset which eased us into another dark starlit night. The persistence of the haze, slight though it was in the evening, prevents us seeing the milky way. It was a cold evening for our walk to and from the village. Thick coats, gloves and hat are necessary as the temperature has been dropping by a degree a night. It was a cold 6°C by the end of the evening.
The temperature at 10.00am on Thursday 23rd. January was 6.5°C.

Good morning from Roda. This spell of good weather, whilst continuing for the moment, is due to end with showers tonight. We have quite a bit of haze around, more than yesterday, blue skies with scattered clouds, heavier and denser to the south. There is a gentle breeze and the sea is ruffled with noisy waves. It was slightly warmer first thing so there was no frost. The UV has gone up a notch to 3 where as this time last year it was 2 at the most and more often than not 1. We didn’t start seeing the UV of 3 until February. Breakfast was taken on the balcony toasting in the sun.
Yesterday was beautiful all day again, not that we are complaining. Beautiful and warm in the sun cold in the shade and very cold at night. There was the usual monochromatic sunset of a deep orange band on the horizon after the world had turned pink. The dark night sky was awash with so many stars, and the daytime haze had eased a bit to allow mainland village light to be seen. It was a chilly 6°C at 11 pm.

Good afternoon from Roda. We got up to deep grey skies and such a haze that Albania has gone. There is a haze in the top valleys behind us. The sea looks calm, but I can hear waves coming ashore here. The breeze is a bit more noticeable, but it is milder. Funnily enough, although it is milder it feels cold because we are lacking the lovely sun’s rays. We had double figures but the time we got to 10 o’ clock. We were supposed to get rain over night, but we stayed dry. However, we did start to get steady rain but late morning.
Yesterday, after starting off nice and sunny, got increasingly cloudy during the afternoon until the sky was covered. There was a short period of time when there were some large patches of blue but they were short lived and by the time it should have been sunset we had no gaps. I was however our warmest day of the year, though it certainly didn’t feel it because of the lack of sun. The night was very cloudy with no wind and a sea barely stirring itself to ripple. We appreciated the slightly warmer temperature for our walk too and from the village. It was a mild 13°C at 11 pm.
The temperature at 10.00am on Saturday 25th. January was 13.0°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 15.4°C, and the minimum was 4.7°C.

Good morning from Roda. It was cloudy and darker than usual when we got up after a dry night. There was complete cloud cover and Albania was barely visible through the haze. It was very hazy towards our mountains with the top most peaks lost in the mists. However, as the morning progressed, we saw blue patches of sky appearing and a decent attempt by the sun to be seen. The sea is only slightly ruffled but a deep grey/ green steel colour, and there is quite a stiff breeze making it feel quite cold outside. The deep grey colours of the sea and the winter colours of the trees are highlighted by the golden patches of sun. So, even though the weather isn’t the best, it is still quite spectacular to watch.
Yesterday wasn’t a great day. The grey overcast morning progressed into a drizzly afternoon. That fine drizzle that makes you feel cold and miserable, yet it was almost too fine for an umbrella. It did ease off in the evening, but we still had a lot of haze and Albania was missing. The tops of our peaks were lost in the mist and haze all day. It must have been miserable in the mountain villages. However, on the positive side, the sea was calm, there was little in the way of a wind and the temperature was mild.

Good afternoon from Roda. It was a cloudy start to the day, with Albania missing across the channel and heavy dark clouds descending our mountains. We had intermittent heavy outbursts of rain, with brighter spells between. Even occasionally an odd blue patch. There was quite a breeze and the se was ruffled with small white horse developing as the wind increased from time to time. It was feeling cool due to the lack of sun and the dampness.
Yesterday was a bit of a wet and miserable day after a reasonable start. The bright morning merged into an increasingly cloudy afternoon with only a few breaks with some sun. Albania came and went with the drizzle that came after very low key sunset (the clouds just had a peach tinge) The wind got up a bit and there were a few breaks in the cloud that allowed a glimpse of the sliver of the moon and a few stars. The drizzle intensified to give us rain later on. It stayed mild however with the late evening temperature 14°C.

Good morning from Roda. It was a bright and mild start to the day, but has got increasingly cloudy as the morning has progressed. Breakfast was managed on the balcony and it was warm when the sun shone. Albania is absent from the horizon, lost in the mist across a calm silvery sea. There are small waves coming ashore which we can hear on the front balcony. Our morning peaceful read was disturbed by the tree surgeon and our landlord coming to tackle the trees in the garden.
Photo of tree pruning Greek style.
Yesterday during the day was one of heavy rain showers with good period when it was just grey. There were heavy clouds and mist lodged over our mountains for the best part of the day before lifting for the evening. Albania was absent all day across an intermittently choppy sea. We even had a rumble or two of thunder in the late afternoon. The clouds lost their dark grey coat and turned much lighter for the early evening, there was even a hint of a peach blush round the time of the sunset. Later on, some gaps developed in the clouds and we could see the growing crescent moon and a sprinkling of stars. Good afternoon from Roda. We had a cloudy start to the day, with signs of overnight rain, and with the sun desperately trying to find a gap and every now and then succeeding. The mist and murk were playing with our mountain tips and Albania was missing across the channel. On the positive side it was quite mild but, without the sun, not warm enough to have breakfast on the balcony. The was a breeze to add a slight chill in the shade, and the sea was calm with just very small waves coming ashore.
Yesterday turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far, but it was not a great day with plenty of clouds around hiding the sun. Albania was posted as missing for most of the day, visible only by the clouds caught on the peaks. It was very pleasant when the sun did come out and the clouds had cleared enough by sunset to deliver us a very satisfactory one. The clouds gathered again in the evening, so no moon or stars, but the lights of the mainland had reappeared. The wind and the sea were both calm and gentle. It was a mild 13°C at 11pm.

Good morning from Roda. As I am typing this the sun is streaming in through the windows and find hot on my back. We awoke to sunshine and scattered clouds and the haze gone. Albania is back in place across a blue sea speckled with white horses with a capping of thicker clouds. There is the merest of breezes so it was very pleasant enjoying our cereal on the balcony this morning. This spell of mostly sunny weather is due to continue for almost a week, so immersion water heater off and back to free solar power. If my cold eases a bit I might even go mad and sort some washing out for the machine.
Yesterday was a day of mostly cloudy spells with a few sunny ones thrown in. Sometimes they were of a decent length, but they got longer as the day wore on. Despite the clouds it turned out to be the warmest day of the year, if only by a fraction of a degree. We even had a few spits and spots of rain a couple of times in the afternoon, though the overnight rain did not reappear. The haze and high humidity meant that Albania was absent all day, barely even giving us more than the warning lights at the narrowest part of the channel. The sea and the wind both remained calm throughout the day, which is why the haze never moved. The clouds had left space for the sunset to perform brilliantly. The whole sky seemed to be on fire, with our best vantage spot being through the bathroom window. The evening was still quite cloudy, but there were enough spaces for the waxing crescent moon to be seen with a compliment of a scattered stars. It was a mild 14°C at the end of the evening.
