Steve, Dave and I would like to wish all our readers a happy and healthy 2020, and we hope to see you here in Roda this year.
Good morning from Roda. What a glorious morning to welcome 2020. We have a clear, cloudless blue sky with a quite a breeze, amazing views towards the mainland over and a very pretty deep blue sea generously topped with white horses. The wind was whistling around the house just before dawn before dying down a bit. We very much enjoyed basking in the hot sun as we enjoyed breakfast on the balcony. We haven’t much planned for today, just a gentle stroll through the village for coffee and a nice meal this evening to welcome in the new year. The photos were taken a couple of days ago.
Yesterday was another lovely day with clear skies during the day and the mainland appearing so close. The sea was calming all day ending up with barely a ripple by the evening. The sunset started with the world turning rosy pink, especially the mainland. Then the colour seemed to leech into the sky turning it pink. Then the setting sun got in the act and we ended up with a finale of burnt orange, reflected in the windows of some building in Saranda, as the sun agreed it was time to go to bed. The night sky had so many stars and mainland village lights. There were some thin streaks of clouds in front of the moon that gave us a night time mackerel sky, a very dramatic end to the day. It was cold, but as the wind had gone didn’t feel too bad as we walked back from the village. We just had our usual night of an early evening drink followed by our dinner and a DVD. It was just under 5°C as I went to bed with the fireworks of the Albanian community ringing in 2020 (Albania is 1 hour behind us here in Greece). The temperature at 10.00 am on Wednesday 1st. January was 10.6°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 11.7°C, and the minimum was 1.7°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 12.1°C and the minimum 4.1°C. A cloudy start to the day clearing to give a lovely sunset. The reported UV for Today is 2 (Range 1- 11+) UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around and around the summer solstice).

Good morning from Roda. The glorious settled weather is continuing. We awoke to cloudless blue skies, a calm blue sea (though we heard quite noisy waves during the night) and a frost! By the time we properly stirred ourselves that frost had melted away, but it was still cold with the dawn temperature not reaching 2°C. The air is still mostly clear, if you ignore the drifts of smoke from the bonfires, so we still have amazing views of the mainland. Breakfast was eaten on the balcony, toasting in the warm sun, with the second load of washing in the machine. It is one of life’s great pleasure to linger over breakfast with a good book in the sunshine watching the birds busy in the garden and the occasional butterfly wandering passed.
Yesterday was another lovely day. The wind eased off during the course of the day easing the waves as it did. By the evening we had very long low rollers making for the shore. The day ended with a stupendous monochromatic orange sunset. We were looking at it from the kitchen with a foreground of very dark bare trees and branches against the sky. The effect was stunning, so we watched it for a while. Once the sun had gone it got very cold very quickly, so we were bundled up on our walk into the village. The waxing crescent moon was still glowing yellow in the star strewn sky. The village lights from the mainland were still clear, we could even see the glow in the sky from a town behind one of the far western ridges. It was a lowly 4°C at 11.30 pm.
PS I made an error about the Albanian celebrations. 11 pm here would be 10 pm there, not midnight. Maybe they can’t do the maths either! The temperature at 10.00am on Thursday 2nd. January was 4.1°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 14.8°C, and the minimum was 3.5°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 11.0°C and the minimum 0.7°C. A sunny start to the day ending up completely cloudy.

Good afternoon from Roda. A late report as we had to go into town today to get our gas heater back from being repaired. Unfortunately, though it worked for a couple of minutes, it is now dead and we’ll have to go back! However, it was another lovely morning for the trip, there being a clear sky, just a gentle breeze, but it was very cold with a fast melting frost. The sea was lovely and pale blue with a slight haze trying to mask the mainland, with its snowy peaks, and the Diapontian Islands. Once over Troumpeta, and heading towards the hairpin bends the vista before us was beautiful. The valleys were full of mist with the countryside turned to varying shades of grey waiting for the sun to bring back the colour.
Yesterday stayed lovely all day, sunny, cloudless with just a gentle breeze. The sea was back to a kind version of itself with gentle ripples or small waves coming ashore. The was the usual amazing orange monochromatic sunset before delivering us into night. We still had the waxing moon tinged yellow, shining in a sea of stars. There were a few light streaky clouds in places and a bit of a haze partially obscured the lights from the mainland.
The temperature at 10.00am on Friday 3rd. January was 4.2°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 13.1°C, and the minimum was 1.2°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 10.5°C and the minimum 5.5°C. A thunderstorm during the night with heavy rain. Some sun in the morning before becoming cloudy with evening rain.
The reported UV for Today is 2 (Range 1- 11+) UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around and around the summer solstice).

Good morning from Roda. It is yet another glorious morning here. The early morning frost soon melted away and we have almost clear blue skies with just a few threads of thin clouds, a light breeze and a calm sea. There seems to be a bit of a haze, but that could be mostly the smoke from the many bonfires kept low by the atmospheric conditions. We seem to be cooler than Corfu Town as our shade temperature at the moment is reading 9°C, and in town it is around 13°C. But I have just come in from the balcony where the sun was burning my neck and I just had a light sweater on. We are able to enjoy the warmth on the balcony from about 9am until around 4pm when it quickly goes very cold. By 4.15 you need thick sweaters and a coat!
Yesterday was the lovely all day. Nice and warm in the sun during the day with only a few thin streaky clouds to mar the otherwise perfect blue sky. The wind stayed calm as did the sea. There was the usual perfect sunset and the moon, a half moon by now put on a show with the stars and the lights from across the channel. I have not heard confirmation, but there did look to be a wildfire travelling up a ridge on the far right of the mainland. It was a cold evening with the temperature dropping to 4°C.
The temperature at 10.00am on Saturday 4th. January was 5.7°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 11.9°C, and the minimum was 1.0°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 5.9°C and the minimum 1.0°C. There was snow on our mountains and for a while it snowed here before turning to sleet and rain. There was a strange phenomenon with the sleet from the sky meeting the steam rising from the sea. The clouds eased to give clearing skies and a bit of drizzle.

Good morning from Roda. It was a very cloudy start to the day with only a few blue patches around. The wind was getting fresher and the sea had big waves and white horses right across the channel. As the morning progressed the clouds are being pushed away and the sun is making an appearance. It was, however, a mild start with no frost and a dawn temperature around 7°C that quickly rose into double figures by 10 am.
Yesterday, after the lovely start, quickly got overwhelmed by a never ending stream of clouds that didn’t stop until the whole sky was covered. There was a tiny gap in the clouds that allowed a tiny, but very pretty, sunset. The clouds tried hard to mask the moon but we just got a yellow glow where it should have been. It was still chilly though there was barely a breeze and the sea was calm. It was 8°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 10.00am on Sunday 5th. January was 12.0°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 13.1°C, and the minimum was 1.6°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 7.2°C and the minimum 1.7°C. Albania was almost white from the snow fall, clear, cold and sunny all day.
The reported UV for Today is 2 (Range 1- 11+) UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around and around the summer solstice).

Good morning from Roda. The cloud and the strong winds of the last few days has gone leaving us with clear blue skies. The very strong wings we had yesterday afternoon into the night have eased, but there are still chill eddies lurking. The wild seas have died down, but there are still big waves coming ashore and white horses further out. The humidity has dropped so the mainland has popped back into lovely focus and we can see that there is a fresh light covering of snow on the higher peaks. All-in-all a very pretty picture. We did manage breakfast out on the balcony, but the cool wind hastened our retreat back indoors. I am writing this with my neck burning from the sun streaming in through the window and the door to the balcony wide open, yet the shade temperature as just reached 9°C.
Yesterday was bracing to say the least. The mostly cloudy start gave way to full cloud cover as the wind freshened. Some of them looked very ominous with deep grey bases. Some of the cloud formations were strange as we watched storms shedding rain and snow chasing sunshine patches across the mainland. By the end of the afternoon the wind was so strong, causing the overhead cables to moan and sing, all adding to the crashing of the waves, all joined together made quite a noise. It was a very bracing walk too and from the village in the evening. That wind however did clear the skies of much of the cloud cover and we had stars and a yellow moon shining together with some of the mainland lights. It was 9°C, but feeling very much colder by the end of the night.
The temperature at 10.00am on Monday 6th. January was 7.6°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 13.1°C, and the minimum was 7.6°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 9.6°C and the minimum -0.3°C. A cold clear sunny day with Albania almost completely white with snow.

Good morning from Roda. It was an extremely cold night with quite a frost this morning and a sub-zero temperature. Once the sun got into its stride that frost soon melted away and the temperature slowly crept up. We have clear skies of the most amazing deep blue colour, echoed by the sea, which though calm looking still is noisy with the waves coming ashore. There is a pesky and very chilly wind that sneaks round the corners to mar your morning breakfast in the sun. The air is very clear giving us amazing view of the mainland set against that deep blue sea. Pity it isn’t warmer, but you can’t have everything, and you don’t get this clarity generally in the summer. Winter here has so many things going for it, least of all we are never with flowers as we have roses in bloom, the yellow sorrel, tiny wild marigolds and the delicate narcissus. We still have butterflies darting around together with so many small birds around our house.
Yesterday stayed clear and sunny all day, with no clouds daring to stray into our skies. However, it was still windy making it feel cold and the seas raged, though they and the wind started to ease off by the evening. We had a sunset that didn’t send us outside to admire, leading onto a very cold and clear evening. The moon is approaching being full so only the brightest stars were seen. They were joined, as usual by the mainland village lights. I keep calling them villages, but am sure some of them are much bigger judging by the clusters of lights. The temperature was falling being 3°C at 10.30pm and 1.5°C by midnight.
The temperature at 10.00am on Tuesday 7th. January was 2.3°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 10.6°C, and the minimum was 2.4°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 7.9°C and the minimum 3.3°C. A cold clear sunny day feeling bitter with Albania still white with snow.

Good afternoon from Roda. It will be shortened report as Steve and I had a short break in Corfu town staying at the Constantinopoulos hotel. A lovely hotel on the edge of the old town. We enjoyed a browse and a lovely meal at a restaurant where the waiter turned out to be the brother of Spiros who runs the To Neon in Sfalkera! This morning was frosty here in Roda, but just very cold in town. The views from the hotel window across the port were lovely. It was another sunny and cloudless day with almost no breeze and a flat calm sea. There didn’t seem to be quite as much snow on the peaks on the mainland, with much of the light covage gone. Once the sun got going we joined the many people enjoying a coffee in the warm morning sun.
Yesterday, after a very cold start turned out lovely. Staying sunny all day without much wind and a calm sea. The sunset followed the pattern it has been doing for quite a few days now. The hills and the sea turn varying shades of pink, then the sky turns orange just above the horizon and night falls. It was another cold and clear night as we wandered back from our lovely meal and a nightcap of tsipouro (just to keep the cold out you understand).
The temperature at 10.00am on Wednesday 7th. January would have been around 2.3°C, the same as yesterday.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 11.5°C, and the minimum was -1.1°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 6.3°C and the minimum -2.6°C. A cold clear sunny day still feeling bitter with Albania still white with snow.

Good morning from Roda. This cold but beautiful weather is continuing. So, we awoke to another heavy frost with the temperature barely above freezing. We have cloudless deep blue skies, hardly any wind and a calm and blue sea. Albania is nice and clear with its snow-capped peaks, and there is a trail of smoke coming from the wildfires high up on the far western edge of the mainland. Looking at the temperatures around the island, it seems that the west coast is several degrees warmer than us in the north and the east, and the port of Corfu is warmer than the airport!
Yesterday was cold but sunny. By mid- morning there was enough heat in the sun to enjoy a coffee in San Rocco and even dispense with a coat for a few hours. In the shade though it was very cold. The photo was taken from our room at the Konstantinoupolis Hotel, with the early morning sun catching the ferry as it came into port.
The day stayed lovely with the sun going to bed in its usual stylish way of turning everything pale pink before going out in a blaze of glory on the horizon. The night was cold with a full moon and the brightest stars in the heavens. The wind had all but gone and sea remained calm between us and the mainland. The lights of the towns and villages were added to by the glow of the fires on the mountain. It was a chilly 5°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 10.00am on Thursday 8th. January was 4.2°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 11.9°C, and the minimum was -1.4°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 11.3°C and the minimum 3.9°C. A cold day with periods of heavy rain some extremely heavy with Albania and our mountains lost in the rain and clouds.

Good morning from Roda. This settled but very cold weather continues. Daylight brought us a very heavy frost and partially frozen pipes. The pipes are still frozen so water is down to a trickle. On top of this the electricity was turned off whilst they changed the power cables leading to the house. And they also changed the water meter because it had got broken with the frost. On the good side we have wall to wall sunshine, with only one or two clouds to the south west daring to make an appearance. There is still a smudge of smoke from the Albanian wildfire. There is barely any wind, and the sea is calm and blue. It was hot enough in the sun to enjoy our breakfast and a read. It may only have been 7°C in the shade but feeling more like 20°C in the sun.
Yesterday was sunny all day with calm winds and a blue sea that could barely raise a ripple. The early morning frost quickly cleared, and again it was lovely in the sun but Baltic out of it. Without clouds we had a standard ‘the world turns pink, followed by the burnt orange band on the horizon’ sunset. There was a full moon gracing the skies with a scattering of the brighter stars. There was a bit of haze towards Albania dimming their village lights, and showing that the wildfires had abated somewhat. It was a cold 4°C by the end of the evening.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Friday 10th. January was 5.2°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 11.5°C, and the minimum was 0.3°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. The lovely settled weather we had is over for now. We awoke to 100% cloud cover which meant no frost and it being slightly warmer. Albania was just a series of ridges with the haze; the sea was flat calm as was the wind.
Yesterday stayed pretty much cloud free until late afternoon, when a mackerel type sky gradually formed to give a gorgeous sunset and a lovely background for the first full moon of 2020. Apparently, it is called a wolf moon. Here is my poor photo of the view towards Acharavi from Roda last night. It was stunning despite the cold.
The temperature at 10.00am on Saturday 11th. January was 8.6°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 12.3°C, and the minimum was 1.7°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 10.7°C and the minimum 4.8°C. A day of sunshine and clouds, chilly getting increasingly cloudy ending in a spell of light rain early evening before clearing.

Good morning from Roda. The rain that stopped last night before midnight hasn’t returned, so we awoke to cloudy skies but it was dry. There is however, a heavy mist that is all but obscuring the mainland, but for a while an escaping shaft of sunlight lit up a distant high snowy peak. As the morning has progressed the clouds are starting to break with some blue patches and sunny periods, so I’m being brave and put a load of washing in. It was a much warmer night with no hint of a frost, and a warm enough morning to enjoy breakfast on the balcony in just a dressing gown.
Yesterday was a cold day with no sun, barely a drop of wind and a sea too lazy to do much. By mid-afternoon some clouds that had looked threatening lived up to their promise and the rain started. It kept up a steady rate for the rest of the day, only stopping just before midnight. That was the first rain of 2020 and even the first rain for the best part of three weeks! We set out for an afternoon walk into the village and noticed that huge amounts of seagrass had been deposited along the beach, and even over the road and onto the sea walls. How it appeared God only knows, as, as far as we were aware, we had had no strong winds or high seas during the previous 24 hours. It just appeared! Knowing Corfu we will do the walk soon and it will have equally just disappear overnight! . The temperature at 10.00am on Sunday 12th. January was 9.8°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 10.8°C, and the minimum was 4.9°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 10.7°C and the minimum 4.8°C. Started off clear but getting increasingly cloudy, partly cleared during the evening.

Good afternoon from Roda. It was such a lovely morning here with almost perfectly clear skies, no wind and a calm sea. It was so hot in the sun on the balcony that, after breakfast, I was quite content to sit and continue reading my book. Then we had to dash off to make a doctor’s appointment before he closed for the morning. It may have been only 10°C on the front but we felt like it was over 20°C on the back. Some of the snow has melted on the peaks of the mainland, but the higher ones still have their white cap. Most of the recent haze had gone leaving us with lovely views across the deep blue calm sea towards Albania.
Yesterday was warmer than Saturday, but we had almost complete cloud cover for most of the day. We were becalmed with no wind and a flat calm sea. Our walk back from the village rarely disappoints us with constant changes of light and weather conditions. Yesterday, as the world was turning peachy pink when the sun was deciding to retire the ripples on the sea picked up those hints of colour to give us a blue and pink watered silk effect. It was so pretty just to stand and watch the shifting colours on the ripples. There was a small opening in the clouds that developed to the west that allowed a small but perfectly formed sunset to delight us. The evening gave us a full moon and enough gaps in the clouds to show a handful of stars. It was a milder 9°C at 11pm.

Good morning from Roda. We have another lovely morning here in Corfu. There is a lovely blue sky faintly streaked with some thin clouds with thicker white ones attached to the mainland peaks. The clouds are not interfering with the sun, so it was lovely and warm for our breakfast on the balcony. In fact, I am writing this wearing a sleeveless top and quite comfortable in the 17°C indoor temperature with the outside door wide open. We have a slight haze which is dimming our view of the mainland across a beautiful blue sea. There is barely a breath of wind to stir the washing.
Yesterday stayed lovely all day despite an increasing amount of cloud. They never really affected the sun though and added a nice touch to the great sunset. The wind and the sea remained calm all day though it was chilly in the shade. It was very hazy, especially in the evening but I think a lot of it was smoke being driven down by the atmospheric conditions. You could see it swirling in the light from the street lamps. We did get a moon partially hidden behind thin bars of clouds, whilst stars peaked out from larger gaps. It was a mildish 9°C, at 11 pm.
The temperature at 10.00am on Tuesday 14th. January was 8.6°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 15.0°C, and the minimum was 5.9°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2019 was 10.6°C and the minimum 5.7°C. A clear sunny day, windy and cloudless apart from a low down bank towards Italy.

Good morning from Roda. We seem to be in another spell of settled weather with sunshine forecast for the next week, some days getting some cloud, but the next few days are due to be cloudless. So, we have a clear blue sky, with no trace of clouds even over the mainland, a gentle breeze and a flat calm very blue sea which we can barely hear even though we are so close. The narcissi are really getting into their stride now with pretty little clumps appearing in the fields, and the wild blue irises have been reported as being seen. Breakfast was enjoyed in the warmth on the balcony as the temperature just about climbed into double figures.
Yesterday stayed warm in the sun and cold in the shade all day. The thin tracery of clouds over us disappeared by the end of the afternoon, with only a few lumpy ones lingering over the mainland. There was the usual glorious sunset time of the world turning pink and then the sky gets washed with deep orange on the western horizon. The moon was late getting up so we could see so many more stars in the night sky. There was still a slight haze, probably smoke from all the bonfires and wood burners, that masked the village lights across the channel. The wildfire from the previous night to the west of Saranda seemed to be out. It felt much colder than the actual one and a chilly 9°C at 11 pm.
The temperature at 10.00am on Wednesday 15th. January was 8.4°C.
