There’s a lot going on in the village at the moment … ‘St George’s Church’ has been undergoing further improvements and now boasts a beautifully clad bell tower. It’s an absolute picture!
The photographic shop next to ‘Yummies’ has been stripped out completely . . maybe Nikos will be able to extend his business next season.
‘Yiannis Papoutsis’ is pressing ahead with the new apartments above his shop (formerly Crusoe’s) and they could well be ready for the 2020 season. If we can find out a name, then we’ll post it here.
‘Valentino’s’ are improving the bathrooms in their Block ‘B’ behind Sophie’s Apartments.
Roda’s famous ‘Palia Skouna’ nightclub, behind Roxannes & Skouna, has now re-opened at weekends. I understand that the people behind it this time are a guy from Cargo Bar in Sidari, and Makis Koursaris, son of Kostas who used to have the horseriding.

We can confirm that Yummies will soon be yummier .... Nikos was hard at it today, looking a bit like Father Christmas covered in white dust, knocking the photographic shop and his creperie into a single unit. There will be a lot more seating in 2020.
We should also point out that our new barber's shop, Straw Hat, has been open through the winter and was having screens fitted outside recently. It all looks very stylish ....

Is our larger-than-life hairdresser Xanthi expanding? No, not her waistline, but her premises! Workers have been busy recently building a canopy in front of her shop and the empty unit next door ... more when we know.

There are lots of projects emerging around the village now that the New Year is upon us.
Valentino’s ‘B’ block is still being refurbished internal and work continues daily
Something is being created on the small parcel of land opposite Theodoros & next to Fiona Apartments. Nikos is still working at Yummies
Something is happening at Afroditi - possibly at the ‘Yacht Club’
The creation of five(?) apartments above Yianni’s Sokaki shop in the village is steaming ahead
Part of the land next to Nemo is being redeveloped - possibly a swimming pool? … at least judging by the depth of the hole and the shuttering
Our main road from the traffic lights to the sea front has been given a name! ‘Odos Theodopoulou Demetriou’ which we think is in memory of Kosta’s father Dimitris, who was ‘patrinos’ of the village.

Hi - it would be lovely to see photos of any more new developments in the village if anyone has time. We are still clinging on to the hope of coming in the summer so it would be great to see the village coming back to life.
kind regards

The new builds that are progressing beside Nemo and next to Fiona apartments. The work seems to be slow but steady, but I still haven't heard what the plans are. The work on the apartments behind |Newport and El Mar seem to have come to a halt.
The buildings beside Nemo
And beside Fiona apartments

The building work around the village continues, if all-but slowly. The building closest to Nemos now has a sign on it saying it is a commercial building for rent. The block of apartments between Sunriders' office and the Roda Park restaurant has been having work done it sporadically over a few years, but it looks more determined as I went passed yesterday.

The work on the building beside the Fiona apartments continues, and it's starting to give us an idea of the final look.

At long last there is work happening on the block of apartments behind El Mar and Newport. They have laid increasingly derelict since I've been coming here twenty years ago. It looks like an entrance has been made into the side of the building and sheets of polystyrene were being lifted into the building. Will be keeping an eye on developments on my daily walks.

Despite it being a Sunday work was continuing on the apartment block behind Newport. Most of the shutters had been flung open and the chatter of many workmen could be heard. It is all looking very promising.

Work continues apace at the former Roda Studios behind El Mar. With a skip in a permanent position at the side of th building.

whilst not exactly Roda I though people who regularly walk along the beach road to Acharavi would have seen the closure and sad decline of the Beis Beach Hotel leaving it derelict. On my walk past there had been a lot of clearing up of most of the infrastructure that had been around the bar and pool area. I will keep an eye on what is happening and an ear open for any news. I stupidly forgot to take a photo, but will do next time I'm passed.

On my walk around the village on the last couple of days the work on the new projects continues. The Roda studios is continuing to be stripped of internal furniture and fixtures, with workmen going in and out of the former El Mar and I can hear noises from behind an open door of New Port. Vasso, of Big Ben, has opened her shop (Mystique) next to Leopard travel. Although she was seen sitting outside of it most days during the lockdown.
Floyd at the Dolphin, having done a lot of work on the outside of the restaurant last winter, has turned his eye onto the bar. The room has been taken back to bare walls and re-worked with the bar moved to the front. The plan is to have bar stools there as well. The room was a work in progress, but from what I saw it looks as though it will be a big improvement with lots more useable space. Work needs to be done by the council on the road from Roda towards Acharavi has collapsed in a couple of places. The culvert near Ammos has collapsed and has a pallet over it to stop people falling into it. The usual place where the road always gets erodes, has further collapsed and is taped off to stop cars going along that part. At this moment in time there is no way a bus, or even a minibus, could get through.
