The recycling scheme in Roda is gathering pace and it being well supported by locals of all nationalities. So far, in just 26 days of opening, we have collected and processed approximately 63 cu.m. of recyclable product - enough to fill ten standard Transit vans.

It has been decreed by government that all businesses will be responsible for sorting their recyclable rubbish at source. It is to be separated into four categories - paper, glass, plastic & metal. There is a meeting for local business people in Roda tonight to see how they can contribute to what has been achieved so far.

Considering that many business owners are not in the village at the moment, and also the inclement weather, last night's meeting at Drunken Sailor was reasonably well attended. Several members of the syllogos addressed a good cross-section of Roda businesses, including supermarket, bar, shop, restaurant & hotel owners.
The meeting was also addressed by Dimitris Kotsis, one of the three contractors we are currently using to collect products from the recycling site. The proposal is that sufficient money should be found to pay for an occasional driver to visit each of those businesses who agree to help, and remove their recyclable products for reprocessing. It is hoped that a van will be donated for the purpose and there will be a charge of €2 per business per collection.
