Good afternoon from Roda. A final trip into town before our trip back to the UK, our business was successful followed by a visit to the market to get fresh fruit and veg for the journey. It was a pity that we couldn't buy everything that took our eye, but we came away with local mandarins, blood oranges, a bunch of fresh oregano and a cauliflower. We had to ignore all the lovely fresh fish. Our trip to and from town was beautiful with every changing views of the snow capped Albanian peaks with their fresh coating of snow. They were startlingly clear rising from a sea of the deepest blue. That sea was quite rough with choppy waves in the normally calm waters of Kontokoli bay before Corfu Town. Our journey back was brightened by all the flowers we spotted. Banks of wild irises in blues and mauves, fields full of creamy narcissus with tiny golden trumpets, glimpses of the pinky mauve wild anemones and dovesfootcranesbill. Add to this the acid yellows of the wood sorrel and the mimosa, then you have the whites of the almond blossom, the daisies and the first camomile. We also have banks of tiny wild marigolds turning their heads to the sun, interspersed with delicate tiny white sprays of flowers. Spring has well and truly sprung out here. It may be chilly in the wind but we have blue skies and weak sunshine. OK we have had quite a few clouds around this morning, particularly in town, and the sun is playing hide and seek, but when it is out and hitting those snow fields in Albania it is stunning. The very chilly wind of first thing has died away a little.
Yesterday after quite a damp and wet start steadily improved. The wind increased to be quite strong blowing the haze away and whipping up the sea. We had enough clouds around to give a magical sunset with the sun setting behind a bank of clouds edging them with pure gold. The rest of the sky was flushed with pale golds blending into pinks over the mountains on both sides of the channel. Walking into the village we were getting wet from the spray from the waves. The night sky was mostly clear. starlit, moonlit with clouds reduced to the edges. The lights of Albania were back in force. IT felt chilly though despite a temperature of 10°C at 10.30pm.
The temperature at 9am on Wednesday 13th. February was 7.9°C, real feel 6°C, and the humidity was 53% giving a dew point of -1°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 12.8°C and the minimum 7.9°C. A day of thunder and lightning with heavy rain with only one or two breaks.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 12.1°C (real feel 11°C), and the minimum was 7.1°C , a dew point of 6°C.
The maximum humidity was 81% and the minimum 60%.
The reported UV for today is low at 3 ( Range 1- 11+). UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice). The maximum temperature recorded by me in Roda in 2018 was 33.0°C real feel 35°C, on 8th June. The maximum recorded temperature ever in Corfu was 42.8°C The lowest recorded temperature was -8.8°C

I love going there, even though I got gently told off for not being for such a long time. When I next go back I will send your greetings. I get my hair done, a Greek lesson, catch up on the village gossip and a coffee. Brilliant Jan

Good afternoon from Roda. Another late report had to go and see the doctor to get my prescription before I leave. My cholesterol is down, I think due to the Greek diet. It was a glorious morning with wall to wall clear skies, any clouds were too shy to make an appearance. It was a bit breezy and the sea was rough. Some of the snow has gone from the Albanian peaks but what there was gleamed in the morning sun. The low humidity is giving us lovely clear views across the channel.
Yesterday was not a bad day at all. It started off a bit cloudy but the sun won and we had a lovely afternoon, with only an occasional cloud passing. The sun set was fairly average monochromic, but lovely non-the-less. The sea was rough all day with long rollers hitting the shore with enough force that we could feel the spray! The evening was chilly, even cold in that wind. There was a lovely half moon and lots of stars joining all the lights round the bay. A bracing walk back from the village.
The temperature at 10am on Thursday 14th. February was 7.2°C, real feel 10°C, and the humidity was 53% giving a dew point of -2°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 11.1°C and the minimum 4.6°C. The storm had gone leaving a windy and cloudy day.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 11.3°C (real feel 8°C), and the minimum was 5.1°C , a dew point of -1°C.
The maximum humidity was 65% and the minimum 41%.
The reported UV for today is low at 3 ( Range 1- 11+).

Good afternoon from Roda. Very busy with getting ready for our trip back to the UK. The weather has been kind to us with a nice sunny morning, lovely and warm for having breakfast on the balcony. There were few clouds around but not getting in the way. The views of Albania are still fantastic, though much of the snow has melted. The sea is still quite rough with creamy headed rollers coming ashore, but the wind has dropped away completely which is something. Last of the washing out on the line.
Yesterday stayed lovely all day with hardly a cloud in the sky, those that did appear were tiny wispy things. The sea remained rough, and getting rougher as the day wore on. There was a major change with the wind, it suddenly blew up sending my sensors and thermometer flying on the balcony. There was a door banging away in the flat next to ours which was all locked up. It was a wild walk into the village for dinner. There was another lovely but monochromatic sunset followed by a starlit sky with a bright half moon shining. The wind did ease a bit during the evening but still blowing the trees around by the late evening. The temperature was a mild 14°C at 1030pm but felt much colder.
The temperature at 10am on Friday 15th. February was 13.7°C, real feel 16°C, and the humidity was 63% giving a dew point of 7°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 12.5°C and the minimum 8.4°C. Mostly cloudy but dry day with wind increasing in the evening.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 14.0°C (real feel 16°C), and the minimum was 2.4°C , a dew point of 4°C.
The maximum humidity was 58% and the minimum 41%.
The reported UV for today is low at 3 ( Range 1- 11+).

Good morning from Sfakera; I am covering for Jan while she and Steve are on their travels to and from the UK.
The Halcyon days are still with us even if they came late this year as we wake to a cloudless sky, almost still air and the sun glistening on the snow capped peaks of Albania, the coast at Roda making the sea look a very deep blue (it is also now calm again) and in half an hour it will be here in Sfakera too. It is a chilly 6.8c at 8:30am but it will soon warm up once the sun comes around.
Yesterday the nice sunny morning gave way to a build up of clouds, some grey in colour some large as well. We still had long sunny spells, with a gentle breeze, during the afternoon but there was no sunset to talk off but the evenings are drawing out and it isn't dark now until nearly 7pm. Early nightfall saw some stars and a bright moon (just over 1/2 a moon) but also clouds; however they had cleared by 11pm to leave a lovely starlit night. It was chilly as the temperature dropped.
The maximum temperature was 14.1c and the minimum was 6.7c.

Good morning from Sfakera where it is very similar to yesterday but cooler (6.5c at 9am) and the Albanian mountains are not as clear due to haze. The air is currently still and the sea again a deep blue looking calm. The sun is up and the main sound this morning is sadly gunshot as the hunters are out in force. I am taking advantage of this weather to do some washing and this afternoon some strimming out by the roadside.
Yesterday was a glorious sunny day; some high thin layered clouds appeared but they were to the north and didn't affect the sun. A light breeze meant there was always a chill in the air during the afternoon but it is perfect for working outside and judging by the sounds of chainsaws, strimmers and the sight of smoke suggested many were. There are plenty birds around the gardens and follow the Robin's lead and come to ground after digging, weedeing, cutting wood etc to search for food; yesterday in addition to the regular Robin, I had Great tits, Blue tits, Blackcaps, Bullfinches, Goldfinches and a Yellow wagtail along with a few others I didn't identify. The European Jay was sat watching in the walnut tree next door. Blossom is out on the Almond trees (snow white) and the Mimosa trees (bright yellow) and many flowers are opening on the verges and in the olive groves; Iris, daisy types in blues, purples, whites and yellows. A lovely time for walking. There was a beautiful orange sunset and high to the west the moon was already up. After the sun sank from view we were treated to a deep yellow to purple sky low on the western horizon behind the olive trees - a lovely end to the daylight hours. As nightfell so the temperature dropped and we were treated again to a lovely starlit night; the moon again very bright and high in the sky so acting like a streetlight on the unlit roads or where the lights are well spread out or, as opposite me, the bulb has gone.
The maximum temperature was 14.3c (real feel 16c) and the minimum 6.5c.

Good morning from Sfakera where it is exactly the same as yesterday morning but the haze over Albania is less today. The high thin clouds of last night to the North have disappeared over night to leave us with a totally cloudless sky, the sun glistening off the snowy Albanian peaks and the olive groves below the village. The birds are in full song this morning.
yesterday was a lovely sunny day; there were a few fluffy white clouds around to the S and SW but they thinned and vanished once over the peaks to be replaced by others doing likewise. Buzzards circled overhead shrieking to each other. During the day I saw my first lizard of the year who had popped out to enjoy the sun. The only downside being a Sunday was the continual shooting and also the sounds of cars doing doughnuts or similar floating in the air...….I assume it is a weekend bit of fun for some. During the afternoon some thin layers of high white cloud appeared to the north and later to the west. As the orange sunset so the clouds turned light yellow then pink in colour. The moon already up was high and after nightfall very bright dominating the sky surrounded by the stars.
The maximum temperature was 15.2c the minimum 5.3c.
Tuesday night there will be a full moon.....it will be one of the brightest....see below
The February “Super Snow” Moon February’s full Moon peaks on Tuesday, February 19, at 10:53 A.M. EST (15:53 UTC), but will appear full the night before and after its peak to the casual stargazer. It will also be a so-called “supermoon,” which means the Moon is at its closest point in its orbit to Earth. In fact, the February’s full Moon is the nearest, largest, and brightest full Moon of the year! Technically, it’s the second of three supermoons to occur in 2019 (January, February, March).

good morning from Sfakera, after a beautiful moonlit night.....like a large spotlight lighting up the ground; even at 2:45am when my dogs wanted out the garden was illuminated, I could walk up path into my little orchard without need for a torch, clear shadows were made by trees, garden furniture, me. Really lovely and more the same tonight hopefully. Sadly I only have camera on laptop at moment so couldn't get a decent photo. The sun is now up, it feels chilly due to very gentle breeze but is warmer being 7.8c at 8:30am, there are some clouds to west and north and Albania is only just visible in a few places, the sea not so blue is calm. There is a very heavy dew this morning.
Yesterday was again another glorious day, a morning walk through the olive groves between Sfakera and the main Karousades road was delightful, birds signing, buzzards circling, chickens clucking and sheep bleating with their bells jangling. The olive trees glinting silver in the sun, dark green in the shade. It was a perfect start to the day. Working in the garden was a delight and having lunch outside was a must. Slowly some very thin layers of cloud appeared late afternoon; before that we had only seen vapour trails from passing planes but it didn't affect the sun; the breeze was very gentle. A deep yellow sunset was followed by the light yellow and pink sky on the horizon as slowly night fell. The moon by then was already high in the sky and just got brighter as the night got darker; it truly was a "Super Snow" moon.
the maximum temperature was 15.9c (real feel 19c) and the minimum was 6.3c.

Hello, hope you are well. It has been wonderful last 10 days or so. Today it has clouded over but forecast still looking fine until Saturday; just when I want to walk to football! Sowed my early seeds today under a cloche; strimmed the grass verge by road for my house and neighbour. Just have to be outdoors and enjoy the halcyon days whilst they last. Around Roda, Acharavi and Almiros in the grass fields the narcissi are looking great as well. It really is a lovely time of year as long as you pop the wood burner on by 6pm. All the best,Dave
