Good afternoon from Roda, and Kalo Mena for February. Today the wild narcissuses bloomed along our lane. We are stilling suffering from this lurgy that is going around Roda. We had to make the effort though and head to town this morning. It actually wasn't too bad a morning here. OK we had complete cloud cover, but it was dry and had a hint of possible brightness about it. It was breezy, but the sea was calm. Albania was hidden behind a dark veil and the clouds were threatening to come further down the mountains behind us. It felt cooler than the mild temperature we had. Going over the pass at Troumpeta it was just clear enough to see the Diapontian Islands, and coming down the other side we had clouds rising up the mountain sides with buzzards circling in the thermals.
Yesterday morning dried up around 11am after the early thunder storm. The rain we had heard on our wall as reported yesterday may have hail, sleet or snow as snow was reported not far from us and certainly a bit higher up. Albania started of hiding but by the end of the afternoon was showing her beauty off as by then the skies had mostly cleared, has had the air allowing amazing clarity. We had enough breaks in the clouds to give us a few sunny spells before the sun went to bed in a deserved blaze of colour. We didn't go over the doorstep in the evening but felt it stayed dry until at least bedtime.
The temperature at 10am on Friday 1st. February was 11.2°C, real feel 8°C, and the humidity was 83% giving a dew point of 8°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 10.4°C and the minimum 6.7°C. A grey day with early morning drizzle.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 11.9°C (real feel 9°C), and the minimum was 7.0°C , a dew point of 9°C.
The maximum humidity was 95% and the minimum 74%.
The reported UV for today is low at 1 ( Range 1- 11+). UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice). The maximum temperature recorded by me in Roda in 2018 was 33.0°C real feel 35°C, on 8th June. The maximum recorded temperature ever in Corfu was 42.8°C The lowest recorded temperature was -8.8°C

Yes Jan, just up road in Sfakera it was a hailstorm, starting at 10:30. In just 90 seconds the road, verges and gardens were white with the massed hailstones larger than peas. The verges and gardens cleared to water very quickly leaving large puddles everywhere; the road soon cleared as it changed from hail to rain but there were still patches of ice several hours later despite the bit of sunshine we had during the afternoon. A well mixed bag of a day.
In the evening rains started about 10pm; after a lovely starlit start to the night; and continued into the early hours; just a continual gentle shower.

Good morning from Roda. I managed a quick look at the lovely dawn on a trip to the bathroom this morning, it boded well for later. When we did eventually emerge it was quite a decent and bright day. There was sunshine, even if it was hard to tell what the actual colour of the sky was. There were significant banks of clouds being held back by our mountains and the Albanian ones. Albania was little more than an outline across the calm but slightly ruffled sea. The temperature was much higher than of late so breakfast was enjoyed on the balcony. However as we were enjoying the last of our cup of tea the wind suddenly sprung up and we were chased indoors! It was forecast to be very windy today but mostly dry.
Yesterday was an increasing wet day ending up with heavy showers in the evening before dying away. We managed to get home from town before it got too wet. The rain was driving onto our south windows during that time. Even when we have bad weather here there are such beautiful moments to enjoy. Yesterday I stood and watched storm clouds gathering over Albania there were dark clouds to the west but the sea in front of us and to the east had turned a most amazing luminescent jade green. The contrast was stunning. So we have had a spell of cold wet weather, but here we are with the doors wide open and the sun streaming in with the most wonderful scenery just there for the looking at.
The temperature at 10am on Saturday 2nd. February was 15.2°C, real feel 15°C, and the humidity was 75% giving a dew point of 10°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 14.6°C and the minimum 12.8°C. A wet and windy day.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 14.2°C (real feel 8°C), and the minimum was 5.7°C , a dew point of 10°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. It was a very wild night with high winds battering the apartment and scattering anything that wasn't tied down. Fortunately Steve has been here long enough to get everything secure before these high winds can do any real damage. We had a few plants in pots blown over and some of the veggies look a little sorry for themselves, but nothing lost. We have complete cloud cover, Albania just about hanging in there across the channel and a very rough looking sea, especially far out. Calmer in shore but lots of white topped waves for as far as the eye can see.
Yesterday started off quite promising and bright but as the wind steadily increased so did the cloud cover. There were a few blue patches still around during the afternoon but by the time the sun was retiring we had complete cover. The wind was blowing nice and strong by then and blew a few gaps in the evening sky to allow some stars to shine. The sheltering tanker was still on station off Roda, though what shelter it was getting is anybody's business! The sea was quite gentle close to shore and thankfully it was very mild with the temperature holding up around 17°C. We went to bed with the sound of the wind moaning, groaning and rattling around the building.
The temperature at 10am on Sunday 3rd. February was 18.3°C, real feel 15°C, and the humidity was 48% giving a dew point of 7°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 15.5°C and the minimum 13.3°C. Another wet and windy day.

Good afternoon from Roda. A delayed report due to being on duty at the recycling centre. Despite there being five of us on duty we were rushed off our feet and kept going for almost two and a half hours. We left a couple of people waiting for the pick up from the contractor. We must be getting near 90 cubic meters of recyclables collected in around five weeks of operation. It was a grey start to the morning with the wind having died away completely and the sea returned to mill pond flat even though I could hear waves hitting the shore towards the village. But it was very mild with the temperature climbing quite quickly even with minimal help from a pale and watery sun.
Yesterday stayed very windy and cloudy all day. It was however quite mild but the edge was being taken off by the wind chill. It got to be very dark and threatening to the south with heavy dark brooding clouds which were coming down the mountains behind us rolling waves that flopped onto the shore. The winds and sea did ease a bit as the day wore on leaving us with long We ended up having some drizzle in the late afternoon before that dried up leaving us with a very warm evening with the temperature a balmy 17°C at midnight.
The temperature at 10am on Monday 4th. February was 13.3°C, real feel 15°C, and the humidity was 66% giving a dew point of 6°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 14.0°C and the minimum 11.8°C. A cloudy start before brightening and the clouds clearing completely.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 18.5 °C (real feel 15°C), and the minimum was 17.2°C , a dew point of 13°C.
The maximum humidity was 68% and the minimum 45%.

Good morning from Roda. It is a cloudy start to the day here with some unusual striated cloud patterns with light and dark bands, but to the north where the sun shouldn't be affecting them. There are big waves crashing ashore, could hear them during the night. There is also a blustery wind that stirs itself often. The snowy peaks of Albania can be just about seen across the channel. It is mild though and the signs of spring are everywhere. We even had to rescue a hummingbird hawkshead moth from the kitchen this morning.
Yesterday seems to have stayed a fairly cloudy day here in Roda with the temperature getting into the high teens. However, down in Corfu Town we had quite a bit of sunshine and the temperature reached the low twenties. The outside tables at all the cafes around Sanrocco and Samara were full. It stayed dry and mild all day with no appreciable sunset. The evening sky was quite clear so there were many stars shining down and the haze had cleared so that they were joined with the village lights of Albania. The sea was dotted with the lights of a few small fishing boats. The waves were just gentle and the evening felt cool after such a pleasant day. Not at all bad for early February.
The temperature at 10am on Wednesday 6th. February was 14.3°C, real feel 14°C, and the humidity was 54% giving a dew point of 5°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 14.1°C and the minimum 4.9°C. A frosty start to a mostly day.

Good afternoon from Roda. Yet another trail down into Corfu Town to wrestle with officialdom. Actually that is wrong, they are very helpful it is just that you have to queue. BUT at least you get that bit of information to go away with rather than struggling with a call centre then waiting for the post. In the bank we spent a pleasant hour discussing our travels in Europe with the bank cashier who couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant, we had mutual friends in Roda and Acharavi. It was another spring like morning here with crystal clear views of the Albanian mountains with their receding snow caps. The tallest ones still gleam in the early morning sun though. There was hardly any wind and just a few thin clouds decorating the sky. The sea calm but I could hear waves hitting the shore.
Yesterday stayed mostly sunny all day with good long spells of pleasant spring sunshine. The narcissus look beautiful when backlit with the morning sun. In the verges of the road down into town we caught the sight of drifts of short vivid purple wild irises and the occasional almond tree just starting to blossom. The mimosa is in bloom in some spots but we haven't seen any yet. The end of the afternoon saw a few more clouds around so that the sunset was just a bit disappointing with colour only just above the horizon. The evening though was chilly but clear with plenty of stars in the sky and the lights of the Albania villages nice and clear.
The temperature at 9am on Thursday 7th. February was 7.6°C, real feel 9°C, and the humidity was 58% giving a dew point of 0°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 16.8°C and the minimum 12.7°C. A very cloudy day ending with rain, heavy at times with Albania and our mountains lost in the clouds.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 16.9°C (real feel 18°C), and the minimum was 9.4°C , a dew point of 7°C.
The maximum humidity was 66% and the minimum 49%.

Good afternoon from Roda. We had a successful trip into town today and have everything sorted quite smoothly in the end. We were minus one or two photocopies but that was easily sorted with a handy little office that does them for a few cents. What has struck us, is that all the Greeks we have spoken to in all the various offices we have visited don't want the UK to leave the EU, they are completely bemused by it all. We saw even more wild irises this time of the paler mauve variety in big drifts on the banks in the olive groves. This morning started off nicely, sitting up in bed with a morning cuppa watching the dawn light on the snowy Albanian peaks. It was quite cloudy though with some blue patches with clouds enveloping the mountain tops behind us. It felt mild, there was no breeze and the sea was whispering as it came ashore.
Yesterday was lovely all day with good long sunny spells. There were a few clouds still loitering to add interest to a stunning monochrome sunset. The day had been pleasantly warm in the sun and the outside tables in the cafes and bars in town were full. The evening had a few clouds still around but we had a sliver of a crescent moon and lots of stars shining. The lights around the bay were on full show. The sea had noisy waves coming ashore. Very noisy as they hit the banks of the stream by The Boathouse. It was a chilly evening with the temperature around 8°C at 10.30pm.
The temperature at 9am on Friday 8th. February was 10.2°C, real feel 10°C, and the humidity was 71% giving a dew point of 5°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 15.5°C and the minimum 10.0°C. A thunder storm followed by rain before clearing entire by the afternoon.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 14.8°C (real feel 15°C), and the minimum was 6.3°C , a dew point of 5°C.
The maximum humidity was 63% and the minimum 50%.

Good morning from Roda. It was a cold start to the day but the temperature is rising nicely now. We have quite a cloud cover but the sun is doing its best to shine through. It looks a lot less cloudy to the north where there is some haze slightly obscuring Albania across a pale blue calm sea. We have no real wind, but am still hopeful of getting the washing dry. There is a definite feeling of spring in the air.
Yesterday was a bit of a changeable day. We had periods of cloud, sun and showers. It had mostly dried up by the afternoon, after the dark menacing clouds that had gathered over mount Pantokrator had discharged its load of rain. We missed the sunset as we decided to reward ourselves with an afternoon siesta after trailing to and from town so often. The evening felt a bit chilly even though there was no wind. The sea was flat calm, just little waves whispering a greeting as they came ashore. It was quite cloudy and hazy with the crescent moon only just showing its face and the lights around the bay were a bit muted. We never know whether it is haze or low lying smoke drifting out to sea from Corfu. It was 8°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 10am on Saturday 9th. February was 10.7°C, real feel 11°C, and the humidity was 78% giving a dew point of 7°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 13.7°C and the minimum 7.5°C. A sunny start to the day that got cloudier but stayed dry.

What lovely weather you are having over there...........WET..DAMP...COLD... here, lovely !!!!!.......just wish I was in Roda !!! We do get a lot of rain here and the waterfalls are in full spate as are the streams and ditches that come through the village But we also have some lovely days in between them, when we take advantage and sit out as much as we can. I am probably being a bit forward in saying that the worst of the winter is behind us. As I write the sun is streaming in through the windows the door is open to let the fresh air in and my second load of washing is just about ready to go out on the line. We heard the little owls last night playing on our balcony, and the garden is full of little birds chirping away. In the evening I use a torch as we have a few toads some of them very big (around 8"" long) and we don't want to tread on them. We like having them around as they eat the slugs that attack our veggies.

Good afternoon from Roda. A late report because we went to help our friends at the recycling centre today, and because it is Sunday went for a coffee at the Tropicana and a tea at Pirates to catch up with people. It was a glorious start to the morning, almost clear blue skies, a calm azure sea and no wind. We had an excellent view of Albania with only a few of the higher peaks still having snow on them. Breakfast was enjoyed in the sun on our balcony, it actually felt a bit too warm at times with my thick dressing gown on.
Yesterday started off with clouds but they steadily faded to give us a lovely afternoon and I managed to get a couple of loads of washing out and mostly dried, It was a quiet pastel sunset with the sky and land flushed pink and peach. We had an early dinner up at the To Neon in Sfakera, enjoying a plate of sofrito with salad, chips and feta done in the oven. The place ended up very busy and cosy with a roaring wood fire in the corner. By the time we left the place was busy with no free tables. The night sky was beautiful with a lazy crescent moon almost flat on its back, basking in a sea of a myriad of stars. It felt cool and the temperature at 11pm was a chilly 8°C.
The temperature at 10am on Sunday 10th. February was 9.7°C, real feel 12°C, and the humidity was 80% giving a dew point of 7°C.

Good morning from Roda. We have schizophrenic morning here today. Ignoring the strong gusty wind we have, if you look to the south there are dark stormy looking clouds climbing down the mountains behind us. To the south there are much lighter cloud formations with good patches of sun. Albania is almost lost in the haze across the calm looking blue sea. The sun is out and feels nice inside the house but that wind is reducing the temperature outside by several degrees. The temperature has already risen to 16°C, nice out of the wind.
Yesterday was a mostly lovely day. We had plenty of sunshine, especially in the morning with a lovely spring like feel to the air. However in the afternoon a big cloud positioned itself between Roda and the sun, and we got quite a long cloudy spell. It was annoying because we could see Acharavi and Amlyros basking in the sunshine. There was a lot of haze hiding Albania by the end of the day which also just gave us a pastel sunset. The haze was mostly low lying so that when night fell we had plenty of stars and the waxing crescent moon shining down on us, but we also had very few Albanian lights reaching us.
The temperature at 10am on Monday 11th. February was 13.7°C, real feel 10°C, and the humidity was 76% giving a dew point of 10°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 11.7°C and the minimum 10.0°C. A very windy day with drizzle for most of the day easing off by night time.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 13.3°C (real feel 14°C), and the minimum was 5.8°C , a dew point of 8°C. The maximum humidity was 80% and the minimum 71%.

Good afternoon from Roda. A return to the UK meant I had to do something about my hair which hadn't see a hairdresser for nearly 8 months as my hairdresser (Xanthe) reminded me. I got a bit of ribbing, but came out very pleased with the new me. We awoke to quite heavy rain and the clouds climbing down the mountains behind us, filing the upper valleys. There were one or two breaks in the clouds, and once the rain eased the sun did its best. Albania was emerging from the haze with partial views of some of the snow capped peaks. The sea looked calm to the west but could see some fairly big waves hitting the shore by Nino's. There was barely a breeze as I walked to the hairdressers but there was a very light splatter of rain. It has remained cloudy but with bright intervals since, feeling a bit on the cool side.
Yesterday started off very windy with poor visibility and low clouds. The morning benefitted from some sunny spells as the clouds broke and we had some patches of blue to the north.. The depth of clouds steadily increased during the afternoon and we got some showers of quite heavy rain at times. The showers continued on and off all evening. The sea stayed very calm with very long waves coming ashore. There was a bit of a breeze but quite a bit of haze that stopped all but the closest Albanian village lights appearing across the bay. It was a mild evening, with the temperature at 11pm 11°C.
The temperature at 10am on Tuesday 12th. February was 9.8°C, real feel 11°C, and the humidity was 81% giving a dew point of 7°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 11.5°C and the minimum 8.7°C. After a damp start stayed dry but cloudy all day with few patches of blue to be seen.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 16.9°C (real feel 15°C), and the minimum was 7.7°C , a dew point of 13°C.
