What a night! We've had 9.4 and 6.9! Our overnight temperature dropped to 9.4oC as Jan will tell you later ... but what was 6.9?
It was enough to wake me up at 2 am this morning - the time that Zakynthos experienced the strongest of several earthquakes overnight. How it must of felt down there I can only guess, but we shook for several seconds when the earthquakes peaked at 6.9 on the Richter scale, 56.9 km SSW of the island.
A magnitude of 6.9 may cause a lot of damage in very populated areas, and from 7.0 upwards, they are considered to be major earthquakes.
