Steve and I were eating our evening meal on the balcony, when we noticed that the usual display of these birds having a dip in the pool behind us wasn't happening. The skies were empty, as were the the wires between the telegraph poles. The nests in the village were silent. Apart from one or two stragglers they have all gone, disappeared overnight. They do seem to linger longer in Corfu town itself, but in this part of the island they have left. For them another summer was over. Just after the recent rains our garden was full of the birds feasting on the insects frantically, now I know why. Looking forward to seeing them all in 2019.

Today i popped to Roda, on the cables near the kiosk were hundreds of late staying swallows and many more on the wing. Clearly they were gathering for the last flight home!
