This is how one of the locals described the aftermath of last night's gales, as he surveyed the aftermath. The beach road from The Boathouse towards Acharvi is covered with sand, stones and sea grass, with bulldozers being called in to clear a way through. The actual beach in Roda itself has significantly changed with much more sand. There is now a long very wide swath of sand, almost covering the rocky groynes being used to keep the sand in place. Boats that had been left safely up the beach have been caught up in the high seas, one being rescued and secured to a lamp post. A car that had been left on that bit of beach that is used as a car park by Alexandros on the Beach has been left stranded. There isn't much water around it now, but the level was much higher during the night, reaching the steps down to the beach. Hope it is OK. John from The Boathouse was out clearing up, helped by one of the village dogs who thought it was bgreat fun to lie of the sea weed John was trying to clear. There has been quite a bit of damage to plastic screens, beach furniture and wood terracing of the beachfront properties.

Such a shame about the beach and the damage the weather has caused

Apparently the car was left on the beach because the owner cannot find the keys! He was worried he may have to dig and tow it out once he finds them as the sea came up around it.

It's possible that the beach will be even better this year, kaz, as the storm brought lots more sand in, levelled out the runnels in the sand and took all the seagrass with it.
