There might be an air of calm about the place, but there is lots going on around Roda at the moment.
Yiannis Papoutsis has stripped everything out of his new shop next to Corfu Best Travel and we know he had further improvements to make for the 2018 season.
The British man who was promising to renovate the apartments behind El Mar & New Port has not been seen for some time now, but it is thought that someone else from the island is seriously interested in developing the whole site ... maybe not for 2018, but certainly the year after.
The biggest project we've seen is the three big buildings that have emerged from the hillside above Roda Beach. We think they may belong to Robolla Beach and there seems little doubt that they will be completed before May. It is an impressive development providing something like 50 new rooms. With the promise of the land beyond the stream being developed at some time soon, Roda could go from strength to strength in the next few years. In spite of the trend for people to travel all-inclusive, many such visitors do increasingly use the village amenities which are superior to what they find in their resorts.

I can confirm that the new development is part of Robolla Beach and, at some stage, it will include a swimming pool. It's understood that a further three blocks will be built next winter.

There seems to be lots of work going on everywhere at the moment - Theodoros has started renovating the interior of the the rear left-hand block and Eleni seems to have gutted many of her rooms. The focus seems to be bathrooms this year and there are old pans & basins lying around - Avocado may have finally disappeared from Roda!!

Steve the old pans and basins if not broken make excellent plant containers!

Good idea Dave - and Avocado would blend in very well! Out of interest, we were given some avocados recently that were actually grown nearby - that's a new plant to look at.
As an update to Theodoros, it's not just the decor inside that's been changed, but it seems that the whole of the interiors have been ripped out and the roof has now come off. There was a big gang of workers there yesterday replacing all the rafters.

If tourism is directly proportional to activity, then we should be in for a good summer in Roda. There has been lots of activity at Makis Apartments, following his sad death a few weeks ago. I think the family are making quite a few changes and a skip appeared there yesterday. Something is happening at Nemo too, as there were tapes across the entrance last night.

First we had new toilets & bathrooms and now it's the turn of the terraces. Kostas, at the Ammos Grill Room has started to create a new seating area to the side of the current one, and Yiannis Papoutsis seems to be starting his promised apartment extension by forming a first-floor balcony above his new shop, opposite La Luz.

That's the one, kaz - we've seen him today and he will soon start on building the apartments up above the shop which will have superb views of the village and St George's Bay. However, they will not be completed inside until next winter and all the building work will finish by April 1st.
