Fraport have said that the initial concession contract work concerning Corfu airport could completed by 2020.
The work will begin with the underground area below the existing terminals (A & B), which has often been a matter of concern due to problematic drainage and other functional issues. At the same time, the building of foundations will begin for the construction of a 10,294 sq. m. building - a new terminal attached to the existing one, to the north of the control tower and towards the old airport facilities. So when the building is completed, there will be 21,162 sq. m. (Terminals A+B) plus 10,294 sq. m., giving a total of 31,456 sq. metres.
The layout of what will now be three terminals is as follows: 1850 sq. m. + 250 sq. m will be given to catering and refreshments services and 600 sq. m. to shops. These areas will be located prior to the transit area and passport control. In these latter areas, there will be 1,000 sq. m. for Hellenic Duty Free, as there is at present.
Parking space: The modification of the external space will provide parking space for 40 buses, 240 private cars, 50 taxis and 130 spaces for rental car parking. Winter operating hours are being limited from 06:00 - 22:00 until 24 March 2018

As I said in the report, the work is optimistically expected to finish in 2020. I believe it is scheduled to start any time now.

Work on the airport is continuing and I understand that once the new terminal building is completed, maybe in 2019, it will be dedicated solely to 'Departures', with 'Arrivals' taking over all of the existing building. Many people are already pleased with the changes made so far and passengers seem to be getting through security in record time.
It's thought that the numbers of night flights are likely to increase soon to make fuller use of the facilities. Arrivals in May this year were more than 24% up on last year.

Ive been very impressed with the work they have completed and although there is scaffolding etc... it is not affecting the passenger experience at the airport. In fact I am really hoping next on the list is removing the need to check in and then lump your case to the security scanner... Now that would be progress!!!
I nominate Steve to find out when this will be done LOL
See you again in 5 weeks!
Kind Regards Malc PS. I cant sign in at work anymore, so have posted as a guest

Hi Malc - looking forward to seeing you again soon. If I can find out what you suggest, then I will.
Personally, I only ever travel with hand luggage and I've always considered that taking luggage to the scanner is actually more secure, as it keeps the person and his/her luggage together until they are checked. If there was a problem, it could be nipped in the bud. I suspect it will change sometime though - probably when 'Departures' has its own building.

It's been announced that Fraport will be cutting handling fees by 50% over the winter, in an attempt to encourage international flights to the islands over this period ..... let's hope someone takes up the baton!
