There has been a lot of speculation about Crusoe’s relocation over the last few months, but there has been no sign of any activity at the first premises mentioned. Word on the street is that Crusoe’s will now reinvent itself at ‘Five Roses’, but we’ll confirm it when there is something more positive.

This is confirmed and Alex is progressing with alterations to the outside seating area. The existing removed completely, new cedar poles erected ready for a new cover, exactly what we wait to see. Some work has also been done to the front roof. I guess we will witness many more changes during the next 2 months.

COFFEE CORNER opened yesterday, it is opposite Tropicana. With planted tubs outside surrounding a seating area under canopies plus inside tables with stools and also a sofa, nice lighting and decor with soft pleasing background music it is pleasing on the eye.
I visited at 9.45am today chosing to sit inside due to rain. An electric wall heater ensured it was cosy. A selection of coffees, flavoured teas, soft drinks, milk shakes, spirits and a choice of warm pies. Not being a coffee drinker i chose apple and cinnamon flavoured tea and a cheese pie. The tea came in a nice little pot on a stand with a small milk, sugar and a biscuit. Also like the coffees it was accompanied by a glass of water. The pie, pasty shaped, whilst not home made, was of good size, warm not hot and tasty. The price 3.70€ was reasonable. Whilst i was there a steady flow of customers both to sit in and take away arrived. I understand they will be open both day and evenings during the week but not sure of weekend hours. This is a welcome new addition to the bars of Roda, convenient to pop in if you are visiting the pharmacy or the other shops around the crossroads.

Do you know whether the couple running it plan something else in Roda?

Hi Maudy, As far as i know 5 Roses is closed completely, at present there is no news of any future plans of the couple who ran it. There are no signs of any work taking place at any of the empty bars, shops in Roda to bring them back to life.

Thanks for all the updates, Dave - it is hell being away! Alex told us that he would be extending the roof over the terrace at the same level as the main building. That seems a bit high to me, but as long as he gets rid of those awful wicker chairs, it will be fine ... We had been waiting for Coffee Corner to open and I think they were waiting for us to leave! What you paid is about the same as we pay at ILO ILO in Acharavi and it’s good to be able to get pies in the village now. We have seen Yiannis from Five Roses a couple of times recently with his daughter Mary, but we didn’t catch up with Eleni to ask what they will be doing. We were told they had retired. The question remains - what will happen with the old Crusoe’s? We were told it will become part of Kind-Hearted Place/Pangalos/Palaia Spiti - whichever of their names you prefer to use. One thing we forgot to mention was that Queens is up for rent. I’m not sure if we mentioned it, but Alekos will be relocating his gift shop from ‘Benny’s’ to the main street in Acharavi - we wish him good luck.

What was the Roundabout Bar next to Pixida is going to be the new home of 12 Gods which used to be on the sea front as you walk towards Acharavi. There is a large wall sign on the wall as you look through the front doors. Work is still going on with the interior kitchen area, as yet no furniture. It seems the traffic light area is popular with more occupancy than further down the road towards the beach now.

That’s good news, Dave - we seem to think they specialised in fish ... is that so?

All we need is JJ's to open again up there - we always started there at least 3 times a week.
Why
Our first time we were in Pegasus and Paula said " Wonder what's up there on the right" as we walked to crossroads. Jess was tremendous we always had our first drinks there when we could.
Sadly we walked up first night last year from Afrodite she was shut.

My understanding is that the ownership of old Crusoes has changed hands. Workmen are now there taking down all the front bar area back to the doors. Rumour has it the the taverna in the building opposite is to expand, using beachside of Crusoes and their building for diners and moving their kitchen over the road into old Crusoes. We will watch the developments with interest as any such change is unlikely to be ready for the start of the season, if it is developed as rumoured.

We heard the same story about the old Crusoe’s Bar before we left in January, Dave, so it looks likely that is what will happen. It will be interesting to see all those meals crossing the road ....

A quick sortie into the village and we find that Rialto one of the first restaurants open for business and we’re told that 12 Gods is run by a lady, but we’re not sure who. The old Crusoe’s Bar is to become a tourist shop operated by Yiannis Papoutsis from Express Supermarket and Yummies will open on Thursday.

We knew that Theodoros was offering ‘half-board’ this year, and that he has a new chef, but we didn’t know that he was taking over the Pangalos Taverna (The Old House) with immediate effect. Theo says that it will be much the same this year, but next season will see some real changes.
