Posters are up to advertise a festival in Roda on 1st May with souvlaki, loukamades, beer and probably soft drinks and wine. There is live music.
Unfortunately the poster didn't say time or venue so if you are here ask around, or recheck this thread nearer the time when full details will be added.

The Roda festival usually starts around 7pm, but gets into full swing around 9pm. It will return this time to its old venue outside of Afrodite Hotel ... see you there.

It was a lovely clear, but cool evening for our traditional May Day Panayiri. The village turned out in very good numbers, with nearly all the tables full by the time we arrived at 8.30pm. The souvlaki, spit roasted lamb and the wine (retsina) and beer sellers were doing a roaring trade. The retsina and beer were being kept cold in a 100 gallon tank filled with ice. We think the soft drinks were floating around in there as well. Even when we left around 11pm the souvlaki rack was still full. Faiakes were their usual very good selves and barely took a break for the whole evening. We could still hear them as we walked up our driveway. A small dance troop in traditional costume entertained us with some local dances. The loukamades table were turning them out at a prodigious rate, just about keeping up with demand. The candyfloss man was making the largest ones I have seen, much to the delight of the children. Balloon sellers walked through the throngs trailing their multicoloured wares. And, in the middle of all this a busload of new arrivals decanted what must have been bemused holiday makes to make their way through the throng to get to the Aphrodite hotel. All in all it looks like it was a very successful fund raising night for the village.
I apologise for the quality of some of the photos. My camera is not the best with night shots, but I hope it gives a flavour of the evening. We had a lovely time and saw so many friends.

The festival in Sfakera had a childrens event this lunchtime. The music and dancing starts tonight at 9pm. If you are visiting it is best to park up on either side of the village and walk up into the square. It was busy last night with many locals rushing about making the final preparations for tonight. The weather is set fair and a good night is expected.

15th August is the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and a bank holiday in Greece. There are many festivals around this time.
The Kassioppi festival is highly recommended and trips usually run from local travel shops, have a look for details and the date. Alternatively there are local festivals;
11/12 August Roda, this is at the traffic lights in the field between the grill and Pegasus Hotel near Roda Camping. Start around 9.30pm.
19th August Sfakera. I will let you know venue nearer the day. There again is a raffle, tickets 1€ from the taverna, 1st prize a 40inch tv.

Today 7th august starting at 9pm is the Varkaroula in St Spiriodon. A festival combining the greek myths of Odysseseus with the 1716 miricle of St Spiriodon against the Turks. There is traditional singing, dancing both traditional and modern and grek folk music. Of course there will be drinks, spit roast lamb, souvlakis and loukamades. Large crowds gather so please allow time and find a safe place to park so if you wish to leave before 2am you are not trapped in!

Sfakera 19th August, saturday at 9pm. The festival is on the main road just 200yards past the cemetery (do not go up the road towards the village, other than to park). Music, dancing, souvlaki, drinks etc as usual. Local for me and marks the 1st anniversary of my fulltime move to Corfu, my how the year has flown by.

The banner announcing the usual May 1st. festival in Roda by the Aphrodite Hotel has been placed at the crossroads by the road leading to Corfu Town. There will be the band, bbq lamb and souvlaki , as well as loukamades (greek doughnuts). The weather forecast is good so it should be a lovely night. Always think that the early May visitors are in for a for a piece of our local coulture. At the moment there seems to be fesivals popping up in all the villages, judging by the number of banners we are seeing on the road to Corfu Town.

Yesterday's festival in Roda was a great sucess. The night stayed dry with a gentle breeze and a calm sea as a back drop. It did get cool as the evening progressed. Jon and Panos from The Boathouse were on bar duty, though I am not sure that were enough stocks to cater to all the people that were there. By 10pm almost all the tables were full, the queue for food was around 20 people long and the bbq for the souvlaki and village sausage was full. The lambs were all gone soon after, so we reckon 6 lambs had been eaten in just over 2 hours! Thy at the loukamades stall was constantly turning them out from the fryer. The one disappointment for me was that the dancing was very late in starting. It could be that they hadn't managed to get a local dance group to encourage everybody. There was a raffle for €200, but you would have to stay to the end to see if you had won. Aphrodite had just opened that day and its outside tables were full. We head home after 11pm with the sound of the band following us home.
